Gallery of guns dot com and an impulse buy
« on: July 25, 2015, 09:45:20 AM »
I made an impulse purchase of a kel tec su16 A last weekend while looking for a beretta cx4, which came with a distributor warrantee from I guess, the wholesaler of the retailer I bought the gun from. They claim a lifetime warantee if I register this gun with them via their website.

Is this a good idea?

How would it not be a good idea.  Davidson's has been around a long time.

My personal policy is to never register any product for a guarantee for the simple reason that I don't want my name distributed to every merchandising outfit in the whole world.  I get enough junk mail (and pop-up ads) as it is.

At least your linked registration form doesn't ask the usual nosy demographic questions about income and education levels, marital status, recreational preferences, whether you own a dog, and whether you're circumcised or not.

Besides of which, they must already have firm records of your purchase anyhow.

I believe that at least the original manufacturer must honor their guarantee, "registered" or not.

This personal policy has nothing to do with not letting the aforesaid "whole world" know I own a gun.

WHATEVER YOUR DEFINITION OF "INFRINGE " IS, YOU SHOULDN'T BE DOING IT.

Davidson's is reputable, but they probably just ship it to KT for you.  I agree it's just a gambit to collect marketing info.
I promise not to duck.

It's a Kel Tec.  You already have a lifetime warranty through them.

I've heard, though, the Davidson's is good about their warranty.

Whether an SU16 is a good idea, I have no opinion on, but would lean on the side of "it's better be good and cheap, given what low end ARs are going for."

Given that it was an impulse buy I'm mostly sure it was a bad decision. It was 520.00 which was about what I was seeing low end AR's for. The real kick in the pants was I thought I loved the fold under stock and don't. Hate it. Buying an AR stock.

I have an SU-16.  Works great.  Very light weight and takes AR mags.  Folds up into a fairly tight package.  Threaded barrel on which I put a flash hider at present.

Downside is the manual sucks.  I watched a youtube video and I am still not sure if I can take it down for a thorough cleaning.
