How many posts do you scrap?
« on: November 06, 2006, 02:02:21 PM »
Meaning, you type them all out and then decide not to post 'em.

Here, I abandon about one out of every four posts I type out. Over on THR, I only post one post out of every six or eight I type out.

Same here.  When the software changed, I scrapped a couple of old threads I had started.  Some were just dumb threads that never meant much or had much life.

None. All my posts are relevant, topical, contextually correct, and contain a myriad of useful, witty information that enhances the health and well-being of others.

I bail out on more than I care for, though I cannot provide even a worthwhile estimate of percentage.  Fatigue and/or BAC figure strongly (too strongly) in the process.  Generally, the cause is of the "That does not need posting" variety:  borderline or blatantly ad hominem attacks and off topic inanity top the list of killers.  I do not, so far as I know, practice different standards for different forums, though.

Funny you should ask! I just scrapped one at THR. I typed it, read it, and thought to myself "this is nothing but a bunch of diconnected thoughts with no real value!", so I hit the back button. In all, about 5% or so.

Not a whole lot. I don't think I could make a percentage estimate. Most of the times I scrap one, it's because:

a) I look it over and realize that it adds nothing to the conversation.

b) I suspect that the person I am responding to is not really listening to anyone but themselves. This doesn't really happen here, mostly over at TFL and THR.

I've certainly scrapped a few of my posts when it comes to our regular, multi-page arguments over hot button issues. Much fewer number when it comes to less thoughtful discussions, though.

Is that what happened to the abortion thread? Just kinda disappeared.

I've not kept any numbers on such, but my gut feeling is that I dump about 20-25% of the posts I type up.  Usually 'cause by the time I've finished the post, I realize that I'm once again rambling and not really saying anything of weight to add to the conversation.

I would say about 20% here, and a little more at THR. I always look over a post after I type it to see if I really want to say that, and if it's worth saying, a lot of them get abandoned in the middle.

Probably 85% of my posts get thrown out. I lose interest or run out of steam or variously otherwise just give up.

You're the first to mention it.  It had plenty of life and meaning, but it was a rats' nest of bizzarre arguments and counter-arguments.  I knew it would become an argument over abortion in general, but the issue had become so clouded and twisted that I was quite disgusted with it.  Your argument, while I disagreed with it, was at least reasonable to some degree.  And my original post was probably too hard to understand or I just didn't express myself very well in the initial idea behind that thread.  Anyhoo, there you are.

Well, it's good to know where it went, I thought I just couldn't find it at first. Topic gave me a huge amount of food for thought, though, and I wrote out quite a bit in MS Word before I saw it was gone.

For what it's worth, I understood your OP completely. With all the practice you get posting here, your posts aren't often jumbled. Wink  grin

Approaching five percent.  Usually it's because about halfway through it sounds to me like I'm part of a broken record (does "shot placement is the most important aspect" sound familiar?) and decide not to bother.
