First test of my new Garmin Virb camera and dog harness

This is going to work well for bird hunting.  I need to work on the mount to level the camera and once I am satisfied with the fit shorten up the straps.

I was using a Garmin Alpha as the remote to turn record on and off.

Next, supposedly the data is there to show the dogs track and speed in the video.  Figuring out how to do that now...

Figured it out, new video uploading now.

Maybe the remote would work better if you give it to the guy throwing the ball.   =)

I need to work on the mount to level the camera

Just hang enough weight out there that the dog leans to the other side all the time.  It should double as a steady mount that way.

Another video today.  If I want to get water retrieves on video I need to move the camera to the top of the harness.  Camera works well underwater though!

https://vimeo.com/129738320

I can't decide if I hate the tilted video or not.  The only fix will be to counter weight the other side of the harness which will be kind of involved and the tilt kind of works.  Keeping the camera on her back won't fly for upland hunting, the movement when she is running is exaggerated, most of the field of view will be blocked by her head, and now it is protruding in a way it is begging to get snagged by barbed wire.  Would work fine for waterfowl though.  Less running, more swimming, and minimal barbed wire.

I was unable to move the camera to her back out in the field.  I overtightened the fitting a little and needed tools I didn't have with me.  I ordered another camera cradle so when I think I will want it on her back at times I can have both mounts on and just move the camera between them (takes 3 seconds)

Edit:  I just read an updated version of the user manual, apparently there is a way to electronically level the camera!

Are you chucking the ball by hand or using some sort of thrower?  If by hand you seem to be getting some good distance.

And I use an "ultra ball" that flys a lot farther than a tennis ball.  Less wind resistance and heavier.  It is stupid expensive for a ball though, I only use it in parks and such so it won't get lost.  I have a huge bag of cheap tennis balls for other areas.  http://www.amazon.com/ChuckIt-Medium-Ultra-2-5-Inch-2-Pack/dp/B000F4AVPA/ref=pd_sim_199_2?ie=UTF8&refRID=0P81TCGVGZBF3VZ0A83Z

Yes, we were able to run our dogs nearly to death with the ChuckIt.. unfortunately the current dog is a pitt mix with no retriever in her, and is very dog aggressive, so we can't go to the parks where we could use it even if she were inclined to chase and fetch.
I promise not to duck.

I should have got this!  https://vimeo.com/122918839

Harness including a twin axis powered gimbal to stabilize the camera.

Except for the parts where it is expensive and would be destroyed on the first fence she tried to duck under.

I first heard about this (or a similar type product) the other day, and I thought to myself that that is the stupidest *expletive deleted*ing thing I've ever heard of. It was being billed essentially as "see life through your dog's eyes!"

But, congratulations, you have actually changed my mind (somewhat) about the product as you have identified an actual use.
