First thing I thought of was a kid on a bicycle:   "Look, Ma, no hands!"

Japan is so obsessed with the cosmetics/optics of their robots, or even quasi-robotlike vehicles, that I question if they'll ever produce anything functional.

Meanwhile, Boston Dynamics etc. seems to be going full tilt on not giving a damn of what it looks like, and going for bots like LS3 which can autonomously navigate rough wooded terrain it's never been on before, following a human operator, but picking it's own path, or the Atlas bot, wich most of the top teams in the DARPA challenge used, simply focusing on the programming.

And a shout-out to the South Korean HUBO which actually had the most points and the best time, the way the bot would kneel, then drive around on wheels whenever it didn't need to actively walk was genius.
I promise not to duck.

No, this one has industrial metal claws on both hands, monster truck tires and a seat for you to sit in.

So, not a robot then, just a fancy looking excavator....

I guess they put an operator in there whose only function is to hit the kill switch if something goes awry.  Like attacking Tokyo.
