Sounds to me like another suicide by cop incident, after the incident with the store personnel.  Looks like he wanted to bat the beanbag back to the officer with the shotgun?

Terry - I am reluctant to call it "restraint" when the beanbag shotgun is not only available but pulled out of the trunk* and brought along.  There should have been one more round available, after which we could talk about restraint by the cops.  (Where was it that a cop decided to avoid either going hands on or shooting some guy in the middle of the street by running him down with his cruiser?  Now that was restraint - 'cause he did not back up to see if he had gotten the guy.)

But good tactical training and execution?  Fer shure, dood!

Current doctrine, at least here in Va, is to keep the real shotgun inside the cruiser and the beanbag shotgun in the trunk.  Also, the beanbag shotgun has neon orange furniture.

I think they showed remarkable restraint and used the (escalating) appropriate amount of force needed in the situation.

1.  Verbal commands. (with lethal force deployed).
2.  Both officer discuss and agree to go to beanbags.
3.  Officer goes an fetches beanbag shotgun (with orange furniture) from trunk of cruiser.
4.  More verbal commands to drop weapons.
5.  Officers again discuss and agree to escalate with beanbags.
6.  Perp shrugs off 3 beanbag rounds.
7.  Officers again evaluate and discuss escalating to tazer.
8.  More verbal warnings to drop weapons.
9.  Tazer employed, perp is taken into custody.

If I didn't know better, that's a training video on how it should be done.

Beanbagged and tazered.  Not shot with a gun.  Damn news "officer involved shooting".  No, they only used less lethal force.  That's not a "shooting".  He was shot with freaking bean bags.
