That was fun! years ago I ran into a guy on a remote Alaskan lake, up in the Brooks range. He was a sign painter in Fairbanks during the winter, and in the summer flew his little Taylorcraft on floats all over the state to go fishing. Good life!

I noticed the sequence toward the end of the video, where the Texan landed his Cub with the engine already stopped. It reminded me of my grandfather, who was a pilot. I'm sure he had the Cub in mind when he said if you keep flying it right up the the bitter end, you could land a light plane against a brick wall and walk away from it.

There were Cubs aplenty when Dad was big into airplanes (70s through mid-80s). Even a Super Cub or two with a few Aeronca Champs sprinkled here and there. The airport in Crowell buzzed with activity then. Sad to see it now, so poorly maintained it's on the verge of being derelict.

The inevitable march of progress. The airport my grandfather flew out of is now a soccer field and a horse show ring. There was another small airport within bicycle range in the opposite direction where I was occasionally able to sneak in and use the Link trainer -- that's now a subdivision.

Looked at the cost of a new-manuf Cub and they seem to run in the $200k-$250k+ range.  Floats cost $60k, for the love of all that is holy and floaty.

FTR, my high-school grad lower middle class grandpa could afford to buy and fly one back in the 1960s.

Think sailing ship instead of weapons.

Among the few things that have greatly outstripped the rate of inflation- which is not easy to do!
medical care, college tuition, private aircraft.
Each, of course, knee deep in federal regulations.

Legends Aircraft has them for considerably less than $200k.

A high performance Cub crafters cub and a J3 cub are no where even in the same class so the comparison is inaccurate.

Even a piper super cub and a j3 cub are two pretty different animals

Remember to thank your local FAA reps and trial lawyers for that.

One guide I ran into in Alaska built a Super Cub clone every winter with a friend. Rented a good space, and spent all winter working and sold it in the spring. experimental license of course. That's what he told me anyway.

10 months sounds like a reasonable amount of time to build a small plane.
