best ipad

Wife wants iPad for surfing and for the chilluns to play educational apps.

I know not of Apple. I thought it was simple, but found they have complicated their product lineup substantially. We do not have an apple computer but she does have an iPhone and a Roku box.

Ipads are stupid easy.  Buy the mid-line model and be happy.

If it were for me, it would probably be a galaxy, but this is a gift. It's a feature that it's a waste of money. Part of the point of gifts is to waste money. It's an economic signaling mechanism.

Skip the Mini and the Pro models.  Get the mid level storage option and your wife will never fill it up.

I would also suggest sticking with the wi-fi only model. Pretty much every phone has tethering built in if you were to need it when you're out and about. No point in paying another device access charge.

for Christmas, I upgraded my wife's iPad Mini, to an iPad Pro.
All she does is some internet surfing,  with some movie watching.  We went with a tablet with only WiFi access through the router in the house or condo.  That saved a ton of money.  If she need tablet internet connection away from home, she can make a hot spot with her iPhone.
The other consideration was memory.  Decided to go with just the basic 16K, as nothing she does really requires a lot of memory.  She backs up her photos to the cloud, and does not store music.
I think we got the best deal, with the features she needs, but did not pay for the other features she won't be using.

I bought an Ipad a few years back.  I would agree that paying for the top-o-the-line is a waste (I did).  I got a cell capable model, but I have used it as wifi only just surfing on the couch or simple games.  I like having it, but it isn't worth spending a lot on.

If I had to get another one, I would try the galaxy or other model.  The inability to use a flash drive is annoying.  I don't want to mess with clouds.
