I need a loud Bluetooth speaker for a telephone speakerphone
« on: December 17, 2015, 02:19:53 PM »
Because of growth, a number of us at work have to become telecommuters since we have run out of Administrative space, and the budget will not permit expansion of that space for a number of years.  So I will be working from home several days a week for probably the next few years.  I have no landline at the new house, and my office desk phone calls will be forwarded to my cell phone.  I do a lot of conference calls and webinars, so I am looking for a Bluetooth speaker to use as a speakerphone with my cell.  I already have an Oontz speaker that can be used for this, but it is not sufficiently loud for me.  Recall that I am hard of hearing with bilateral hearing aids.

Please chime in if you know of a Bluetooth speaker that can be used as a speakerphone and has loud audio.  The budget does not permit getting something like the Polycon conference room speakers.

In the alternative, if you are aware of any Windows software that I can use to pipe the phone audio via Bluetooth through my PC microphone and speakers, please let me know.

Is your office system VOIP, by chance? If so, they should be able to set up a phone console at your bome that mimics your office line.

It's been a while since I bought one, so can't recommend anything current, but I highly recommend getting a good integrated mic/speaker system. That way you don't constantly have to deal with having your phone near you. I got one of those back in the work days for when we were conferencing outside people in while having a meeting in rooms without a phone jack.

Kinda like the regular teleconference "platters" for corded business phones. They give great sound quality and allow you to wander if you need to. They cost a bit more than the $15 or so average of the little bluetooth speakers, but are well worth it if you're going to be doing a lot of teleconferencing.

There are five things, above all else, that make life worth living: a good relationship with God, a good woman, good health, good friends, and a good cigar.

Only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you, Jesus Christ and the American Soldier.  One died for your soul, the other for your freedom.

I have a jawbone that I use with my IPad.  Works well.  I tried to used a cheap model and never could get it to connect reliably.  They have an aluminum body with sharp edges so watch your feet if you drop it.

As an alternative, at work we kept it cheap and got a speaker that can plug into the head phone jack on the cell phone.  It works pretty good also.

Bem speaker available at Costco. Small black cube. I paid $40 for mine, they might be in two-packs for $60 now. Check some reviews, I'm not convinced the microphone is the best quality. I just use mine for music, I can report that it gets plenty loud.

I needed a mod to change my signature because the concept of "family friendly" eludes me.
Just noticed that a mod changed my signature. How long ago was that?

No personal experience but this one seems to sell well.

For the invisible things of him since the creation of the world are clearly seen, being perceived through the things that are made, even his everlasting power and divinity, that they may be without excuse. Because knowing God, they didn’t glorify him as God, and didn’t give thanks, but became vain in their reasoning, and their senseless heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools.

If you like using your PC as a phone I'd say install Skype and have the office forward the calls to the Skype number.  I used a cell for everything as a telecommuter until I racked up a $300 cell bill one month.  After that I went to Vonage, which kinda worked, but ran into bandwidth issues.  Skype was dead simple and I had no call quality problems with it.  It was also something like just a couple bucks a month to have an actual phone number on it, 10 cents per minute calling to outside the US, free anywhere in the US, and generally just very nice.

If you want the cell to ring in case you're not at your PC Skype can be configured to simultaneously ring another number when a call comes in.
