Dickies 874 pants
« on: December 29, 2015, 02:10:14 PM »
I have discovered that the Dickies 874 original fit work pant makes an excellent piece of clothing for working around the house and still looking presentable enough to run out to the store.  At around $ 20 each on Amazon or at Wal-Mart, the price cannot be beat.

The one interesting thing is that the sizing is pretty unique.  I wear 34x30 in my dress slacks and jeans.  The Dickies needed 38x29 to be correct.

Dickies front pockets are way too small.  Those I've tried.

This is so. I actually added material to the pockets on some Dickies. They work fine now, but it took hours.

So that would be... Dickie compensation?

Most pants have crappy front pockets. Cabela's jeans have good 'uns. I'm sure there are others. First thing I check on prospective new pants is the pockets.

OK, who's first with the wise cracks?

Yep, I settled on Dickies 874s also.  Pockets are OK with me, hold a J-Frame (and nothing else) in summer --just looks like a bunch of junk in my pocket, with the cylinder bulge breaking up the outline.  Also holds a Kahr CW-9, but the outline of it screams "GUN!"  (No pocket holsters.)

Winter, pocket holds knife, Bic lighter, toothpick, chapstick, change, mint pack, with no problem --and I just found another 9mm shell in there from some how and some where.  That's twice that's happened.

No need to add volume as far as I'm concerned.

Agreed on their "presentability" in running around town after work.

They also launder well.

Incidentally, they make great, comfortable, cushy, durable socks.   Only trouble is they have "DICKIES" printed across the toes.

Since last year, I've been wearing the version with the cell phone pocket on the side. It took them a few years, but they finally increased the size of the phone pocket, to accommodate even a medium-sized smart phone. They fit better and look better than the Carhartts I tried, and I expect them to last longer. Oh, they cost about half as much.
