Possibly......not enough info in report for me to know what really happened save for it being a horrible thing to have to live with.

Some form of manslaughter, perhaps.

  What happens here?  Homicide charges?

Homicide is the killing of a human being, so yes.  (OK, it's pedantic.  So what?)

The big thing is what level of responsibility they ascribe to the act.  Wanton?  Reckless?  Intentional?  Negligent?

Often this sort of thing ends up with a finding of negligent manslaughter with no time to serve of fine to pay.  Just some sort of post-conviction supervision or conditions (like no firearms even if it was ruled a misdemeanor).  Courts & prosecutors seem to believe folks will punish themselves much more harshly than any incarceration might do.

stay safe.
If cowardly and dishonorable men sometimes shoot unarmed men with army pistols or guns, the evil must be prevented by the penitentiary and gallows, and not by a general deprivation of a constitutional privilege.

Hey you kids!! Get off my lawn!!!

True, skid.  Sometimes having to live with the knowledge of the consequences of an act is worse punishment than anything the justice system can do.

Negligent homicide, manslaughter, it all depends on how the laws are written in that particular state.

I tried to search for other stories.  All had the same information.  All the comments were the same also.

So they didn't want to get a spotting scope and they didn't want to walk back and forth to the targets.  I guess they also didn't have another scope to watch from the shooting location.  Or they had all that and were just foolish.  No excuse either way.

I am a bit curious what the distance was and how close the son was standing to the target.

Yep, violates just about every tenet of firearms safety there ever was.

Hell, I even felt weird about being in the pits at Camp Perry when live firing was going on, especially after a guy caught an absolute fluke of a ricochet in the mouth that punched through his cheek and took out several teeth.

I'll give him one thing, he was a tough SOB. He had the cheek stitched and the broken teeth extracted and was at dinner that night.

Nor a cheap pair of binos?

Something stinks in this story.  Curious to find out if dad and son had some other issues going on.
