Bloomberg Assessing Presidential Run
« on: January 23, 2016, 02:13:30 PM »
You know, I like to make fun of those people across the political spectrum who say, "If 'X' is elected president, I'm leaving the country!!" However, if Bloomberg were elected, I might join their ranks. Bolivia would be a better home than the US under Bloomberg.

I doubt he'll have any chance though, and not just to get elected, but to steal many votes from other candidates. I think there is a decent sized segment of the left that hates him us much as libertarians and conservatives do. Given that, in many ways I'd like him to run just to watch him flush a billion of his dollars down the drain.

Does no one have the stones to tell him that he has no fan base, or does he just not believe it when they say so?

The schadenfreude would be EPIC if he runs.  Not only would he flush hundreds of millions of his own fortune down the drain but the only net effect he'd have would be to split the liberal vote.  Whether he siphons a few votes or a lot of votes they'll come entirely from the Dem candidate.

Remember, this is the guy who believes God will consider it an honor to have him in heaven. He's possibly insane.

Is it even possible for bloomberg to be president? Most presidents have been around 6' tall or taller, and bloomberg is what? 4'9"?

There is probably enough east coast Republicans that would vote for him and ensure the Democrats keep the white house.

There is that segment that will vote for him. It's always surprising to me to see some otherwise conservative minded people support him. Steve Forbes is a good example. He otherwise is very fiscally conservative and freedom oriented, and has some great ideas regarding taxes and free markets, but because Bloomberg supports Wall Street, people like Forbes will kick other freedoms out the door.

I see that a lot with many people interviewed on Fox Business. They're all for market freedom, and will sell out other freedoms to keep it. Most of them are from the NY, NJ, CT areas within commuting distance of NYC. "Blueblood Republicans" I guess.

This is an example of the "New York values" that Cruz talked about as what we want to avoid, and that Trump defended.

Don't say New York values. You know it angers the Gothamites for anyone to suggest they have values.

IMO, that just shows that Forbes and those like him are not as pro-freedom as they sound.

True.  But watching Trump get libs and the GOP elite all riled up is funny.  Bloomberg is just a d*ck.

A debate between Trump and Bloomberg would have been entertaining.

There might be some truth in that.  A rather conservative friend of mine in NYC remarked not long ago that "He's done a lot for New York."  Kind of shocked me.

Three terms as Mayor (even with a two-term limit for that office) says a lot about his effectiveness as a campaigner.
