It isn't just Houston.  Mostly North and mostly West of Houston going a 100 miles or more.  One spot near Waller, TX measured over 17" of water in less than 12 hours or less.  I saw a guy on the news talking about homes that were flooded a year ago and now got flooded again worse.

My parents live in Colorado County West of Houston.  They got some water in the house also.  That house has been there for 35 years and I don't remember water getting anywhere near that high.  Luckily, the Colorado River isn't flooded (yet) so at least the high water should drain off.  The creek near their house (1/3 mile away) is out of its banks and over the nearby bridge.  Washed out the road nearby also.

Someone I work with has a daughter in La Grange, TX and they have a lot of flooding there also.  Just shows this rain storm covered a couple hundred miles with a lot of water.  The news was talking about flash flood warnings across all of South and Southeast Texas for another day or two.

Lucky we did not get that much up north & west of Dallas.  Our reservoirs are still near capacity and a couple in need of repair.  That kinda rain would have flooded downstrewam and/or caused more damage to the dam.

Not just heavy rain, but heavy storms.  I flew into New Orleans today and counted 5 United heavies parked there instead of being in IAH.  I'm sure more planes were scattered elsewhere.

Sodom and Gomorrha got precision strikes.  Houston has been in nuke-from-orbit-and-damn-the-collateral-damage mode for decades.  You'd think they'd get the hint.

I've heard about the girls there.  Is she hot?   =D

Hmmm...there's this long wiggly line thingy where the Gulf of Hurricanes meets the Flood Coast.  Let's just park these expensive planes on another part of it for the storms instead of, oh, I dunno, Nebraska, maybe?

I've been watching that big red splotch over Texas, but now it seems to have moved to Louisiana, which is just off the Western CONUS weather map:

(Current for when you click on it.)

So what's up in LA, HeroHog?

"Gulf of Hurricanes."  Heh.  Do  you mean the Gulf of California?  I keep an eye on that area since a lot of storms from there sweep over Texas, Oklahoma, and occasionally Colorado.

I spent the last few days helping my parents clean up.  Only 2 or 3 inches of water in the house.  Thankfully, the power was on when the water started receding.  My Dad had a shop vac going to draw out the water.  Water was only in the house for 4 or 5 hours.  Looks like they don't have to tear out any sheet rock.  Most damage was confined to stuff on the floor.  The flooring downstairs is all tile or vinyl on concrete.  It is might need replacement at some point.  We spent a couple days emptying out closets and moving furniture and cabinets to make sure there was no water left.  They have several fans blowing, 2 or 3 dehumidifiers, and all the A/C's blasting to make sure things are dried out.

My Mother had a small mountain of craft materials and books in her shop from sewing, porcelain doll making, painting, etc, etc.  It took the better part of a day getting most of the stuff pulled out and hidden water cleaned up.  That was the lowest spot.  I joked that I think my Dad may have run a garden hose into her shop just to make sure.  My Dad's fairly new tractor was okay as well as all the vehicles.

Could have been worse.

My parents have 3 of these fans running to help dry things out.  They are quiet even on high.  I was impressed with them.
