Moar political correctness run amok
« on: May 18, 2016, 11:57:04 AM »
I'll just leave this here: http://www.infowars.com/nyc-to-fine-businesses-that-dont-use-correct-gender-pronouns/

I think it needs no further explanation, but it certainly invites commentary. One more reason (as if I needed one) to stay as far from NYC as possible.

No, it's not "run amok." It's working as designed.

It would simply cause me to revert to, "hey you". I don't see anything in there about simply not using any pronoun.

Actually, I'd tend to call this a victory by the SJW types, more than the transgenders.  They don't want to be singled out as anything but their chosen gender - a MtF transsexual wants to be female dammit, it's "She Her Ms" etc...

"ze hir" and such are for an even rarer and pissier crowd that aren't actually transgender/sexual.  They're generally not on hormones, not looking to afford surgery, etc...  They just want to be special, in my opinion.

Bigot. How dare you tell anyone that they aren't what they believe themselves to be??
I wish the Ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened.

So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us. There are other forces at work in this world, Frodo, besides the will of evil. Bilbo was meant to find the Ring. In which case, you also were meant to have it. And that is an encouraging thought

A-hole and *expletive deleted*bag are pretty gender neutral and pretty much roll off the tongue if you have spent much of any time dealing with junior sailors or marines.

I'm so contrarian that I didn't respond to the thread.

Pretty much.

Determining she/he is pretty subconscious. Most people are going to use the right pronoun for the "right" gender without even knowing it. If someone is getting a lot of wrong gender pronouns, well, that's when that individual need to up your game in the presentation department.

As far as the neutral pronoun, I'm all for making up words and whatnot. Shakespeare made up many that ended up sticking, but the key to made up words is the word needs to be useful, like asshat or kerfluffle. 'zir ze xe' is not useful, there for I shall not be indulging whiny babies who wouldn't know what 'identity' is if you tattoo'd the word on their forehead backwards by using them.
