In 2013, Michael Turner saved the life of a 16-year-old girl who had been viciously attacked and stabbed in a Target store in Pennsylvania. And instead of thanking him for protecting its customers and preventing them from being murdered, Target is now suing him for his heroism and alleging he acted irresponsibly.

The attacker, Leon Walls, was convicted of attempted homicide for stabbing then-16-year-old Allison Meadows in 2013.

While Meadows thanks Turner, Target blames him. Court documents say the company claims Turner chased Walls with a baseball bat into the entrance of the store, creating more danger to those inside.

Two other men are also being sued by Target, however Turner is the only one without an attorney. Instead, he will be representing himself.
That is an odd reason for suing.  It sounds like there is a bunch of legal wrangling going on and this was just a part of it.  Also, they don't mention that two other men are also names in the lawsuit.

Maybe the girl's family should sue Target for not having proper security in place to prevent her from being stabbed.

This gives more of a story.  Looks like the stabber attacked some guy out on the street.  A few guys pursue the guy and they found him in Target.  The stabber grabs the girl and threatens to stab her and then does.  I guess since the family is suing Target, Target is countersuing the men saying they were  liable, not Target.  Not as cut and dried as it first looked.

It appears they are and this is a countersuit.

Target's insurance may mandate it. That's the reason for a number of really weird lawsuits. Last one I remember was an aunt got injured at a kid's party or whatnot, insurance company sued the kid in her name apparently to try to shift liability.

Basically girl's family sued Target. They're countersuing and added Michael Turner to the list. Still crappy.

IMO, the main part I disagree with is the girl's family suing Target.  I just don't think a business is a responsible for preventing all criminal activity.  They could have had 2 dozen armed guards in the store and the girl could still have been stabbed.  She was in no more danger there than outside the store or other public areas.  I don't know what the store was supposed to have done to prevent this.

I'd bet it was the insurance company interpleading anyone they can.  Risk management to reduce financial liability.  See crap like this all the time through probate court.
