Netflix to Allow Downloads for Offline Viewing
« on: June 27, 2016, 10:42:51 AM »
It looks like Netflix will soon allow download of content. All I can say is, finally and thank God! Now that I'm in the boonies, I can't get super HD anymore, and half the time I can't even get HD. Downloading will allow me to pick stuff to watch, let it download, and watch it in high rez later.

Amazon already does this, but I've only ever gotten it to work on my Kindle Fire. Not sure how Netflix will set it up, but I'm guessing it would require a nettop hooked up to the TV or other separate hardware device. Probably no way to do it via a Roku passthrough (maybe I'm wrong). Anyway, looking forward to the option.

Proof that the technologically correct method will always eventually prevail. Eventually, streaming video vendors will be providing services that approach what bittorrent has been providing for free for years.

Netflix's decision to make their own content was key. They can use their own content immediately in any venue...no need to negotiate with anyone. And Narcos was pretty good if you can manage to ignore the main character.
Maybe a rare occurence, but then you only have to get murdered once to ruin your whole day.

I see no need for me  to down load anything from Netflix, but that could always change, and having the option to do that is a good thing.  Thanks for the heads up.

Wonder what the DRM scheme will look like.

I'm curious if they can't handle it like cable/sat companies do with recording to DVR?
