Question for Hunters and Fishers
« on: August 29, 2016, 03:51:10 PM »
Does your state have license apps? That is, a smartphone app that lets you both get, and more importantly, display your license for official purposes?

I was once again impressed with Utah (the first time was with CCW licensing) in that their fish&game dept has an app so that you can present your license electronically if asked to by a warden. Sure does save keeping track of a paper license.

I'm completely disappointed that high tech, home of Silicon Valley, CA doesn't have one. I think they're the cat's pajamas.

I have lifetime licenses for CA, so I go online to order each year's license, and they always send me a temp copy via email to print out, so I don't even think that  I could show a copy of the email as proof of my license. I have to have the stinkin' hardcopy with me.  Some wardens might be cool with the email as proof, but  I think a stickler could fine me.

Anyway, I love the way Utah does it, and I wish every state did something similar. Just curious if other states actually do.

Montana does not.

We can't even get printing them all the way right.  If you order licenses online you can print a temporary version of the conservation and fishing license, but have to wait for any big game tags in the mail.  However, anything sent after printing online and mailed is done by some form of inkjet on crappy paper.  It is really thick paper, as absorbent as toilet paper, and the ink smears badly.

However, if you do your licensing at a kiosk at any sporting goods store, it is printed on smaller paper that does not smear and folds nicely.

Pro-Tip for Montana if you realize you forgot your license after hours the night before going fishing.  We do not have a license reprint option on the web site.  You get a single chance to print a temp license at time of purchase.  You have to go to a sporting goods store for reprints.  However, if you have a printer you can add a "warm water" fishing enhancement to your license for $3 and then it gives you the option to print a temp license again.  Saved my bacon once (and I got checked by a game warden that trip for the first time ever).

To my knowledge, No such thing in Illinois.
However everything seems to be interconnected where they can look up your lic and any permits etc by SSN, DL, phone number etc.
I got checked by a DNR officer for an expired boat registration and he knew everything about me before he approached me at the boat ramp. Verified ID of me and my buddy. He also said if I had a credit card and wanted to use his laptop computer to renew online, he would let me off with just a warning.
What we have here is failure to communicate.

not sure about Florida, but being over 65, I don't need a license for anything State controlled.  I still need Duck stamp, and a migratory bird stamp, but other than that, it's all free.  DL to show age and residence covers me.

Nope. I can buy everything online, print a temporary, and they will mail me the license and any tags but nothing to show in an app.
That is all. *expletive deleted*ck you all, eat *expletive deleted*it, and die in a fire. I have considered writing here a long parting section dedicated to each poster, but I have decided, at length, against it. *expletive deleted*ck you all and Hail Satan.

What do you do when you have zero bars showing?

edit:  posted before I added that in MI you can save a PDF of your license and use that as proof.  Same thing applies to proof of insurance.  When my Jeep was wrecked I had my bell rung pretty good.  I couldn't find my insurance card but offered up the printable version on my phone to the deputy that responded.

The Utah app downloads your license info so you don't need a signal. Just bring your license up in the app and the warden can check all their numbers. Works out good for me because I'm much more prone to have my (supposedly) waterproof phone in my float tube with me (for pics and such) versus my wallet.

On proof of car insurance, yeah, CA lets you show it electronically as well. I always save mine whenever I pay my bill online and send it to my phone.

FWIW,

If you are retired military, and live in Florida, you can pick up a "Military Gold Sportsman" licence for $20. (The cost of the regular Gold Sportsman licence is $100.00}

You can only get it from a County Tax Assessor's Office.

It covers both freshwater and saltwater fishing as well as hunting.

It's a great deal!
