Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!
« on: November 24, 2016, 10:34:26 AM »
I hope everyone has a fun and enjoyable Thanksgiving!

We're flying the "missing man" formation this year, but are concentrating on fond memories vs being sad. My niece's husband came up with my three year old grand niece, and she's quite the character, so it will be smiles all around.

Pretty much the usual of stuffing faces with turkey and stuffing, then cigars on the deck with whiskey (I'm cracking open a bottle of High West Bourye today - I hope it lives up to its price!), then just standard lazing about. I might try some dove hunting this afternoon, though the populations have dropped radically here the last few years. The dog will still enjoy a walk (a short walk is all she can manage these days) with the shotgun though. :)

I was finally able to get the wood stove going this morning. It's been abnormally warm the past few weeks - we even cracked 80 a couple of times lat week. It was 33 this morning though, with more cold days forecast, so Fall is finally upon us in these parts.

Me too.

I have to trek into Illinois, to see some of those relatives I see every other Thanksgiving. It will most likely be sedate, as usual. There could be some election angst, but I doubt it. Nobody there will be under 40 younger than my lovely wife, and myself.  ;)  (It seems to be mainly the younger people freaking out, since they haven't seen this sort of thing before.)

I'll be heading over to visit LB Johnson (of Home on the Range and The Book of Barkley) and her husband after dinner.

I'll have a bottle of Nucino to bring over.... ;) ;) ;)

Happy thanksgiving.

Daughter woke at dawn to hunt grandpas bitty lakefront property.  She managed to bag her first squirrel.  Aimed for head, hit boiler room.  Not a surprise since i have them using aguila super colibri rounds.  Primer only 20gr about 600fps.  Still enough for a full pass through the boiler room and to thwack the tree trunk.  Report like an air rifle.

Got it skinned and cleaned and freezing in a zipmock with some cranberry juice.

Now have turkey cooking.  Good stuff.

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone. May you all have much for which to be thankful.

Chilly here and starting to rain, so I'll hunker down and use the afternoon to focus on updating and synchronizing computers. Don't dare pig out on a traditional turkey dinner because I always eat to much and I've finally started shedding some of the weight I have to lose, so I don't want to sabotage myself.

Yup. Let's hope is it not the last overwhelming political defeat the snowflakes suffer.  =)

(Of course, they might have noticed it happening in 2010 & 2014, and in all the state-level elections they've been losing lately.)

Had a great day with the daughter, son in law and 2 granddaughters here from 2000 miles away. They chose thanksgiving over Christmas this year. Sister and her family brought mom out. Wife did a turkey in the oven and I fixed a small beef brisket in the pit barrel cooker. Niece is a lesbian liberal was a Bernie fan but not once did I hear any politic talk.
I'm going to have to swim extra laps and then sauna for awhile to recover from the eating today.
What we have here is failure to communicate.
