One of Trump's greatest feats is proving that you don't need to pay lip service to evangelicals to win a republican primary. Their psychological hold nearly destroyed the party. It's funny to see some trying to take credit now for Trump when he basically ignored all their junk issues.
The same could be said for the GOP's free-market planks, couldn't it? And maybe a few other things? It's not as if Trump were a doctrinaire Republican, except for the whole religion thing, right?
Besides, isn't abortion among the issues on which Trump had a "change of heart," just like the gun issue? Or is abortion not what you're calling a "junk issue"? ("Junk issue" is a new one on me, so I don't know if that's supposed to include every so-con viewpoint, or what.)
There are actually people out there who think these fossils are fake because they don't fit with the bible. The snark in the comments isn't based on a straw man.
The fake fossil contingent exists (or it once did), but the prominence that creation-deniers continue to give it is certainly a straw man. It's like dismissing every Trump supporter because of the birther issue.
On second thought, there are probably quite a few more extant birther hold-outs than fake-fossil proponents, even as a percentage of their respective cohorts, so...
