Mojito with lunch...
« on: December 22, 2006, 10:48:55 AM »
Kind of slow today at work and the wife took me out for lunch at a upscale cafe here. I saw Mojito on the cocktial menu and decided to have one with lunch. Never had one before and damn it was good. Too bad I was going back to work and might have to run into the 2-3 coworkers that are here today because I really felt like having 2 or 3 more of them.

I just discovered them a few months ago. I don't care that Brian the dog from "Family Guy" calls them a "gay drink". They're damn good. I actually got a Mojito glass and muddler set for my birthday a few days ago. Smiley

Hemingway liked them. Jimmy Buffett likes them. I guess we are in good company!

Think of a freshly made limeade (which has no equal, IMO) with crushed mint and rum in it. They are sublime.

... and a margarita with dinner, for me.

Haven't had a mojito, yet.  It's on my list.

It's 5 o'clock somewhere.

So I remember having one of these once, long time ago at a friends place....   Was pretty good....

So while I was out shopping for tomorrow night's smorgasbord, I had to get the ingredients to make myself one (some).   And right now, I'm trying the one w/ white rum and white sugar.....

And then I saw mtnbkr's post about dark rum and brown sugar...

And darn it, I've got both of them too.....

Might have to make me another one in an hour or so.....

EDIT:  ok.   so i made another w/ the dark rum & brown sugar.....

Daaaaayum but that goes down easy......

And it goes *REALLY* well w/ a quesadilla w/ salsa verde....

Jazz'd tapas bar in Savannah rolls out a wonderful mojito. Every thing else is quite good there too.

Oh yeah, you're Hemingwayesque, Papa... rolleyes  grin

Over the summer family Mtnbkr and I hit a restaurant called "Cheeseburger in Paradise" a number of times, and they have mojitos on the menu.

I think Chris had a blackberry flavored one and possibly a pineapple flavored one. I tried sips of both and they were refreshing. I'll probably get around to trying a mojito the next time I run out of gin.

Yup.  Cheeseburger in Paradise is one of Buffet's joints.  I had their Blackberry and their Pineapple mojitos.  Both, as Mike said, were very refreshing.
