Controversy at YouTube (shutting down gun/weapon channels)
« on: April 07, 2017, 11:23:14 AM »
So, after the last terrorist attack in London, some reporter wrote that YouTube channel JoergSprave, known by many as the slingshot guy, was producing videos used by terrorists for training, and making money off of it.  YouTube apparently reacted to this article and some complaints by giving Joerg a "strike" meaning his channel was at risk of being shut down, and apparently they have now put age restrictions on all videos relating to guns and weapons.  The result?  These channels are now de-monitized, meaning that YouTube/Google will no longer put sponsorship ads on these videos, which means that the channels won't draw any income.  Some links with information:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qqmMHPniqJk&t=139s  This is TFB, a fun gun channel.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eg3GAgTPFxo  This is ZombieGoBoom, a silly channel, but a good description of what's happening.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jfiTxATV4pI&t=253s  This is JoergSprave responding to the whole thing.

Bottom line, he tested a vest he bought on line that was advertised as being stab-proof.  He showed it wasn't.  Some SJWs reacted by saying he was teaching how to defeat armor and kill LEOs.

My advise?  Bookmark Full30.  It may end up becoming the only home of gun and weapon related video content worth watching.

What's Full30? Is that another Youtube channel, or a separate web site?

Isn't he the guy that from some other country that builds things like crazy slingshots? WTF? ???

I think this has been going on for a while, it was the whole reason for Full30 really starting up I believe.

I remember reading that YouTube also did something like this by putting up age restrictions for people putting out Trans/gay videos or something, not sure about advertisement though.

To me, the cranking on mine is pretty effortless, at least on the coarse setting. Maybe if someone has arthritis or something, it would be more difficult for them." - Ben

Update...

Saw this on the Military Arms Channel.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YXOQ9BvT7iA

YouTube is demonitizing a lot of weapons-related channels, meaning no advertising money is paid to the channel.  What this means is that a lot of the semi-pro channels won't be able to sustain video production as they will have no money coming in from their videos.  For a lot of channels, video income is used to purchase supplies (ammo, firearms, etc.) for other videos.  Plus, it helps compensate the makes for time in filming and production.

Full30 may get a lot more business...

From what I understand Full30 is an by-invitation-only channel. "Invitation Only" is another way of saying "to the exclusion of what we don't like", which is exactly what YouTube is doing. Basing channel population on the very concept you are allegedly trying to escape isn't necessarily the best way to build a contributor base.

Unlike YouTube, they're not setting out to host whatever video "You" want to upload. Otherwise, they end up hosting Leave Brittany Alone and Guns are Bad videos.

Full30 was created by gun/hunting people to provide somewhere to show their videos outside of YouTube.  Started not long after Hickock45 had troubles with YouTube questioning his content and flagging him for possible discipline (read: removal of videos).  I don't mind that they limit who they allow to post videos.  They've got several of my preferred gun channels (Forgotten Weapons, Hickock45, .22Plinkster, Military Arms Channel).

I watch different YouTube channels almost daily at lunch.  Some channels have the same sorts of advertising they did before this.  It seems to be only some gun channels, like M.A.C. that have lost the advertising.  And I find it interesting to keep seeing the NRA ads popping up on other channels.  Can you imagine the NRA being upset to have their ads appear in relation to M.A.C. or Ian's Forgotten Weapons?
