More "Rape Culture" consequences
« on: April 24, 2017, 11:44:37 AM »
http://www.realclearinvestigations.com/articles/2017/04/22/as_military_combats_rape_some_accused_are_collateral_damage_.html

In order to appease feminists, the military has reportedly relaxed standards for convictions in trying sexual assault cases.

How shocking.
I wish the Ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened.

So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us. There are other forces at work in this world, Frodo, besides the will of evil. Bilbo was meant to find the Ring. In which case, you also were meant to have it. And that is an encouraging thought

Always battle buddy until you get your 20 and then get the hell out. There's a reason why that's an iron clad rule in Basic. Honestly, any NCO or officer meeting alone with a member of the opposite sex is insane.

"Accusations are cheap.  Defense is expensive."  --Terry, 230RN, ca 1987

They're just making it cheaper, and maybe even rewarding.

There was a gal I worked with, reasonably attractive, but not "wowie-like," who didn't like going down to the building lobby because the two shoe shine guys would ogle her.

She said.

I had occasion to be eating in the lobby's food court once when she came through, and I didn't notice any particular attention being paid to her by them.  Sure, they saw her and continued their regular conversation, but there was no undue attention to her in particular that I could see.  I'm sure they looked more at guys' shoes than her ass.

Accusations are cheap.

I'm not sure I can even imagine how screwed up it's gotten in the military since I got out in '92. It was insane then. Any charge of sexual discrimination/harassment or misconduct of any kind and the male accused was basically considered guilty until convicted. I can only imagine it's gotten worse since then.

I had a little bit of a disagreement with an E4 tender(submarine tender) puke of the smaller female(ish) persuasion when she drug an antenna ice cap down to the boat and demanded I help her install it, We had recently received instructions from the Squadron Commander that the tender personnel were responsible for removing and installing ice caps BY GAWD!!. The directive from squadron didn't sit well with us on the boats because it took away our ability to inspect the work before it was installed.

The ice caps were mounted on top of various antennas and were designed to protect them in the event of the boat surfacing through ice. They were covered in a RADAR absorbent material-RAM. When she had made her demand for assistance I told her I'd help her with it but half jokingly reminded her of the recent squadron directive.

Then I inspected the ice cap. The ram coating was peeling in several places and there were several dings where it had been banged around on the way down to the boat. At that point I informed her that I was rejecting the work and they needed to redo it.

She went ballistic, accused me of sexual discrimination and harassment. Luckily there were a couple of credible witnesses that had been there for the entire exchange.
She informed me she was going to report me to her Chief for discrimination and sexual harassment and off she stormed, back to the tender leaving the defective ice cap behind.
I let my Div-O know about the incident and headed to the tender to take the defective ice cap back and try to straighten out the mess.
When I got to the antenna shop I saw her coming out of the Chief's office, the look she gave me was pure evil. I can only imagine that she was thinking she had just destroyed my career. And she probably would have if not for one little thing.

I knew that one of the guys in the motorcycle club I rode with was a chief that worked at Squadron, I had no idea where he worked until just then. He was her supervisor. The tale she had just spun for him would have likely gotten me in deep *expletive deleted*it, at the very least I would have lost a stripe. She made no mention of the peeling RAM on the cap.
Chief didn't know I was the accused, he thought I had just tracked him down for a visit. I shot the *expletive deleted*it with him for a few minutes about club stuff and general BS. Then he told me he was getting ready to fry some LPO on a boat over messing with one of his people. When I told him I was probably the intended victim he got real interested. I told him my side of the story gave him the names of the people that had witnessed the entire exchange and then proceeded to show him the defective work on the ice cap. He had served on another boat with one of the witnesses and called down to ask him about it, got the same story from him damn near word for word.
There were several phone calls back and forth and a visit from a LT to talk to the witnesses and myself. Eventually it went away, mostly. While I never got in any official trouble over it and nothing was ever written in my records I was still unofficially on probation. My Department Head even "counseled" me "off the record" over the incident. No one in my command could give me any kind of answer as to what I should have done differently.
If I had not been good friends with the tender pukes chief I have no doubt I would have been hung out to dry.
That event was a major consideration when I made the decision to take an early out several months later.

It should be obvious that it's both sexist and extremely discriminatory to avoid being alone with a member of the opposite sex. Doing so deprives them of the opportunity to file false charges of sexual harassment and/or assault and/or rape. How DARE you?

And they wonder why so many young men are giving up on women, instead spending their free time (and money) smoking weed, playing vidya, comics, geekery, porn or just hanging out with their bros.

I don't remember the last time I counseled a male crewman by myself.  It's amazing what people will say, especially to their Daddy, that ends up in a congressional.  Having a witness helps!
