Cheapest route for it seems to be one of the Turkish clones, and you're not getting away for less than $1700 it would seem. Then SBR/NFA tax on top of it.  =(

Which is why I bought a Sig MPx.  I've always wanted a real MP5, but the prices are just insane now.  The Sig fits the bill, with the exception of no happy switch.

They occassionally go for less on gunbroker.

If I was buying new, Sig Mpx seems like best bet.

Does the Sig MPx use an AR trigger group?  Just curious if you could fit the Binary Trigger.  That would be about as close to the happy switch as you can get.

I think yes, but have not confirmed.

Thought it was pretty cool myself.  Cooler than mechtech.

I found time to stop by a couple of local gun stores.  Had a chance to handle a Gen2 Sub 2000.  Good price, takes Glock mags.  Still don't like the way it feels though.  Pass.  Kinda funny, for the longest time I never saw Sub2K's on the shelves, and when I did they were kinda stupidly priced. Today both shops had them, and both were below $450.  Still, no.

Also got to handle a CZ Scorpion carbine, the one with the faux suppressor.  Nice.  Kinda heavy for what it is, but felt good.  They wanted $1070 for it, which after taxes and TICS puts it at $1185.  Woof.

Update:

Yes, the MPX will use a standard AR trigger group, but Sig issues this warning with the MPX:

Quote
The Sig MPX has a fire control group specifically designed to accommodate the high impulse of the MPX operating system.  The MPX trigger bridge is in place to reduce wear and tear and extend the life of the factory installed fire control components.  Removal of the trigger bridge is NOT recommended and will void the warranty of the firearm.  While the SIG MPX fire control components are similar to the AR15 platform, and aftermarket fire control components may fit, installation is NOT recommended in the SIG MPX.  Doing so may result in damage to the MPX proprietary fire control components or the aftermarket components you installed.

So there you go.

BryanP,

Some more info on the MPX:

I was at the Sig Pro Shop last week looking at the carbine-length MPX.  I was thinking about buying one to use as a PCC, but based on what I learned, I will get an AR-based PCC.

The MPX carbine uses a 14.5 inch barrel with a pinned and welded Sig flash hider to make the barrel 16.5 inches OAL.  The flash hider is not compatible with any suppressor currently on the market and there is no way to mount a suppressor on the FH anyway.  So, if you want to use a can, you are SOL unless you buy a new barrel or FH.  A competent gunsmith should be able to remove the Sig FH, but may damage the barrel threads in the process.  Or you could buy a new barrel from Sig, if they ever make the parts.  Sig is notorious for not making parts.  Also, according to the Sig customer service guy at the factory, Sig has no plans to make a true 16 inch barrel.

The good news is that the MPX pistol comes with a standard A2 birdcage flash hider.  The bad news is that it is a pistol, not a rifle.  You could turn it into a SBR if you want, but IDPA rules don't allow SBRs in PCC.  Your local club might, though.  Want to put a carbine barrel on the pistol?  You can't.  Sig says they aren't compatible.  I have no idea why, but that is what they said.

Finally, Sig is producing the Gen 2 MPX now.  If you happen to own a Gen 1, you'll probably never get new barrels or handguards since the Gen 2 parts won't fit.  The good news for Gen 1 owners, like me, is that both Gen 1 and Gen 2 magazines work in both generations.
