I'm of the opinion that the only thing "new" about these types of shenanigans is that the perpetrators are getting caught and outed with more frequency.

This is why the incumbent media so freaked out about the whole blog thing. I don't know if you remember from back then but I read numerous "the sky is falling" pieces about untrained regular folks acting as journalists and the disruptions that would cause.

Well, they we're right. And they were right to be terrified.
