Beretta 92FS Turns 20 Today
« on: October 30, 2017, 07:00:56 PM »
20 years ago today, I bought my first firearm, a Beretta 92FS.  Since then, it has been a faithful companion, both personally and professionally, and endured in excess of 13,000 rounds with nary a hiccup.  While many other pistols have come and gone during that time, nothing feels as nice in my hands.  Here I am picking off empty 12-gauge shells at 25 meters about five years ago.

I should not have sold mine. It would not replace my plastic guns, but it was a joy to shoot. Most of my range time was DA only at 25 yards or short range DA/SA transition shots done fast. Very accurate gun.

Awesome. Never tried one myself, but I'm glad you're enjoying yours.

I am glad you like yours and it fits you well.  The one I had was reliable and solid but I hated the trigger and I just liked other guns I had better.  I always wondered if I should have gotten the trigger reworked, but I wouldn't have the time now.  I think my brother still has that pistol.

My first center fire pistol was a SA Loaded 1911 that I still have.  I do understand the nostalgia for a first firearm that did you good service.  I wish someone has turned me on to the CZ 75 back then.

The sub community of 92 tuners is much smaller than the glock1911 legions but it is there. I got to see what the Marine Precision Weapons Company puts into ground up building bullseye M-9s which was impressive and also played with some tuned up for IPSC and such.

I had to carry an M-9 which is what made me buy a 92, no other good way to learn the DA/SA transition than to do it a lot.

Glad you like yours, however I can never get comfortable with it and hate that I have to use it for the military.  Too bad I more than likely won't get a chance to carry the new Sigs.

I have also heard there are some slight differences between the M9 and the the civilian 92 and maybe one or two other variants.  I heard slight changes in the grip among other things.  Any of you heard this?

I currently have one of the Italian police trade in 92 pistols with the bottom mag release.  Works well, just not my favorite.

I've fielded three different M9s during my military career, and other than the slide markings, plastic guide rod, and bar rear sight, I found them to be indistinguishable from my 92FS.  I've heard there are some differences in the dust covers, but I never noticed.

As for the comments on the trigger, I'm nonplussed.  Other than the ever-present DA/SA debate, I've always found the 92FS/M9 to have one of the smoothest triggers I've encountered, even the boat anchor/future paperweights issued to me by Uncle Sugar.  The DA pull is admittingly typical of the breed, but the SA is sweet as can be.

Let us not overwhelm, disconcert, or confuse one another with triggering comments about triggers.

Since I'm trolling this hard,  drop a few bucks into the raffle pot and you could have a new friend for your existing 92..  Just saying

I do not recall any grit or roughness in the trigger.  It was just a long pull and it felt like I was having to pull the trigger too far back to get it to fire.  I assume it was partly just fitting my hand and what I was used to.

I’ve had one for nearly as long... it’s kind of an oddball- never liked it that much, but never wanted to get rid of it.... too big to carry, but lacks light rail or ability to easily upgrade to tritium for home defense.
It’s outdated, yet reliable.
