Strange things afoot in Houston.

Quote
The man was arrested for unlawfully carrying a weapon and trespassing. When investigators looked into his room further, they located an AR-15, a shotgun, a handgun and lots of ammunition, Macintosh said.

The Hyatt is preparing its own New Years Eve celebration at the hotel with a 50,000 balloon drop at the stroke of midnight, its website said.

The man's white Chevrolet Silverado was located and towed to be searched and examined, Macintosh said.
Not a huge arsenal like Vegas so that makes me wonder what they consider "lots of ammunition".  And they haven't released information on the SUV he was driving.  If murder was his intent, he could still hurt a lot of people.

If they adverted a tragedy they got very lucky that he was an idiot.

If this fades away we will never find out that he got drunk after losing the 3 gun competition.

He was intoxicated IN HIS ROOM and had guns and ammo that most of us carry when we go shooting/whatever. He was arrested for TRESPASSING IN HIS OWN ROOM. I have a myriad of questions!  [tinfoil]
I might not last very long or be very effective but I'll be a real pain in the ass for a minute!

  • ...shall not be allowed.
I am told that the laws regarding innkeeper's rights are very very extensive, kinda one-sided, and a lot stronger than your run of the mill rental agreement laws.  I don't think you can call it "his" room by any stretch of the imagination.  The "expectation of privacy" is more like that in a college dorm room.

Beyond that I'm not commenting since it seems he was not completely angelic, although I certainly understand that he did not want to leave the guns in his truck.  Also, given the antifahysteria new militia lately, I'd be tempted to take an extra gun or two with me, plus ammo, on a  trip.

WHATEVER YOUR DEFINITION OF "INFRINGE " IS, YOU SHOULDN'T BE DOING IT.

Even Disney is changing their policy. They didn't use to check on rooms that had a constant "do not disturb" sign out. Now they're going to check every couple of days.

I assume this is going to become the thing with hotels and motels every where now.

The thing is I'm one of those guys! I don't like having housekeeping come in. Leave me alone. If I need supplies I'll go to the office or grab some off the maid's cart.

Watching the video, no he wasn't.  He got drunk and belligerent in the hotel bar and arrested him there.  They went to his room to collect his belongings, where they found the weapons and such.

They say they were originally going to charge him with drunk & disorderly, but the charges were changed when they found the weapons.

Given everything, and it being Texas, he might get off entirely due to overcharging.

Reading comments in one of the stories they have dropped the weapons charges he was just drunk and stupid.

I stayed in a hotel for a month working for uncle sugar. I wanted to shoot a match, so for the whole month I had a rifle, shotgun, and pistol in my room. And a lot of ammo. And bourbon. To their credit the maids never touched anything. I could see this being me, except the disorder thing. Travel to shoot a three gun match. Go drink in bar, get arrested as a terrorist. I thought a hotel room would be treated like a home regarding 4A rights. Never staying at Disney or strip casino hotels, the Airstream is looking better and better.

Ever since Vegas having some magical number of too many guns is suddenly national news.

Oh, pooh.

Since a long time before Las Vegas, the magical number of too many guns for the liberal media has been any number greater than zero.

I've not researched the issue of hotel accommodations and 2A/4A rights in a long time.  It used to be that an individual had limited expectation of privacy in a rented room, as management always reserves the right to enter the room at any time, from housekeeping service to maintenance.  What I don't know if haw (if at all) things have changed with respect to firearm possession.  Can a hotel post the magic sign at the front door and have that cover all of the rooms in the facility?  Does the sign override something like a CCW permit?  I"ll see what I can find and report back.
No, I'm not mtnbkr.  ;)

The Vegas places seem to think so. Steve Wynn was very forward about it, yes there are lots of guns on my properties, just not yours.
