campaign laws
« on: February 20, 2018, 11:57:50 PM »
As we've seen lately it is illegal for it is illegal for foreigners to influence the election by giving money to a candidate in this country.  So why is it legal for a foreigner to endorse a candidate or criticize one?  I'm thinking of the Prime Minister of Italy who endorsed Clinton or Angela Merkel who said Trump's policies were insane.  Admittedly it is above board, unlike some of the underhanded attempts to sow discord.  But isn't it just as influential as buying a Facebook ad?

I'd tend to go with, how the hell do you make it illegal for a foreigner to do so?  They aren't subject to our laws unless they're actually here.

If they're not in our country, are we going to send black ops after them?

The next barrier is free speech.  Why shouldn't person X be able to say who they support for POTUS?
