I found it highly coincidental that shortly after Trump said he wanted to pull troops out of Syria, that a chemical weapons attack took place... again...

Bless with a hard heart those that stand with me.
Bless the women and children who firm our hands.
Put our backs to the north wind.
Hold fast by the river.
Sweet memories to drive us on,

Regardless of the age of the article, I am still skeptical about this whole thing and why we think we need need to be the ones to resolve it.

Oh, you mean like that the gas attack occured 2 days after Trump said he wanted out of Syria?

And the winning side typically avoids deploying chemical weapons for fear of international reprisal.

I think we need to get out of Syria sooner rather than later.

Exactly.
Syria had zero to gain by using chemical weapons at this point.

If you go back and look at the pictures of the "White Helmets" handling the "bodies" of the victims of the first chemical attack, they are not wearing any PPE.  No gloves, no respirators, not even Tyvex suits*.  Yet, not one had any ill effects from the "chemical" agent and it was like 100+people were all standing in the open next to each other, with just enough separation so that when they fell they were neatly organized, not stacked on top of each other, nor in a random jumble.  It was, to coin a phrase....picture perfect...

* - Compare and contrast to the recent chemical attack in Britain using the same agent.
