Remington 870
« on: June 09, 2018, 04:43:34 PM »
Hey folks!

I know Mossberg does something like this - a pump-action shotgun, 3.5" chamber, with both field (28") and HD (18.5") smoothbore barrels.

I want to purchase a Remington 870 in the same configuration.  Both I and my ffl cannot find such a shotgun package.
Does Remington actually make such a package? I could have sworn that they did.

They show up every year before deer season around here. Combo with 2 barrels but usually the 20" slug barrel has rifle style sights.
What we have here is failure to communicate.

I poked around the internets for a bit.  I also couldn't find an 18.5" barrel with a 3.5" chamber.  However, you should be able to purchase an 18.5" barrel with a 3" chamber and use it with 2.75" or 3" loads.  I would call Remington to be sure.

So why do you 3.5" chamber? I have one for goose hunting.

Have you ever shot those? 3.5" turkey loads have around 66 ft lbs of felt recoil in a pump shotgun.  I couldn't even imagine a deer slug.

Exactly, Brad. I have the capability to shoot *any* modern 12 gauge shotgun shell (2/34. 3. 3.5) through the same receiver. That's an advantage. The 18.5" barrel isn't rated for 3.5 inch so I must be mindful of such.

I tend to stick with 2 3/4" standard and 3" magnum shells anyway, but should I choose to shoot 3.5" magnum shells, I can. =D

I never liked the 3.5 because they are slower to pump, because the forearm has more travel.
Maybe a rare occurence, but then you only have to get murdered once to ruin your whole day.

Yes, I have. My orthopedic surgeon says someday my shoulder might be almost normal again.
