More on Credit Ratings
« on: August 26, 2018, 12:07:11 PM »
Okay, am I the only one here who didn't know that credit bureaus (up until now apparently) were factoring in library fines and traffic tickets? Also my covered medical bills if the insurance is late in paying them? WTF?

Library fines and traffic tickets are also being scrubbed. Medical debts that have been or are being paid by insurance companies will disappear from profiles.

What kind of jerk librarians are reporting stuff like this?  And what kind of mechanism even exists for them to do so?

Once library fines get turned over to collection agencies, they appear on your record like any other debt.  I have friends who work in libraries, and this generally happens after the library declares the book lost, as opposed to overdue, and charges you for the replacement cost of the book.  If you don't pay, by the time it goes to collection, and the agency adds its fees and costs, it can add up.

Most library systems are arms of local or state governments.

You really think Lower Thumbsuck Town Council is going to pass up on 13 cents in fines?
