Good lighter/torches
« on: July 04, 2018, 11:04:53 PM »
It's come to the phase of my life where I'm just about tired of buying cheap lighters that don't work reliably.

I like the long type of lighters used to light grills; however, I get upset when they don't light every single time you pull the trigger, or when they blow out at the slightest breeze.

What I want is one of the long grill lighters that sprouts an impervious blue flame instantly and 100% reliably whenever I pull the trigger. I don't care how much it costs.

I have an expensive bernz-o-matic propane torch. It's a bit overkill for most grill/birthday cake applications, and ever THAT doesn't trigger every time I pull it. Half the time it takes a couple of clicks, or doesn't work every time until it warms up. I'm sure it says something about my personality but that's not good enough. I just want a lighter that works. Every. Time.
Maybe a rare occurence, but then you only have to get murdered once to ruin your whole day.

I've gone through dozens of the long snout lighters and some are OK, some are acceptable and some suck rocks. It hasn't mattered between brands or styles or types, I've even had them in 2 packs where one is pretty good and the other one sucks.
I have one that I keep on the boat for lighting the grill and various other task like making butane backsplices that absolutely rocks.
When it kicks on you hear it's mini-roar and has a flame like a miniature propane torch. I've bought numerous "copies" of it that just didn't work that way. I'm going to mourn it when it finally runs dry.

"so I ended up getting the above because I didn't want to make a whole production of sticking something between my knees and cranking. To me, the cranking on mine is pretty effortless, at least on the coarse setting. Maybe if someone has arthritis or something, it would be more difficult for them." - Ben

"I get upset when they don't light every single time you pull the trigger..."

Your life is just an unmitigated disaster, an unimaginable horror show of crushed expectations...

Seriously, how can you get out of bed in the mornings, knowing that you might have to pull the trigger on that instant match TWICE? I mean, *expletive deleted*ing TWICE? IS THERE NO JUSTICE? IS THERE NO GOD?

When you're bitching about stuff like that, your first world problems have collided with your white privilege and created a massive *expletive deleted*che hole at the center of your universe...

Oh, and those instant match things piss me off, too...

What you want.  What you need!  Is fire 24 hours a day, every day.  You need an eternal flame.  I like using natural gas as a simple, low cost solution, but you may also use propane or even oil.  All you have to do is light one fire, one time, and you'll be forever free of those worthless electric matches.  You'll have to pick a good location for your eternal flame so you can protect it and use it easily.

Build a man a fire and he's warm for.a day. Set a man on fire and he's warm for the rest of his life.

We had a few of those at our old house.  Four were on the stove, one in the oven and one in the water heater.
