S&W M&P 2.0 Shield 9 mm opinions?
« on: September 22, 2018, 03:11:50 PM »
Does anyone have a S&W 9 mm Shield, either version 1.0 or 2.0?  If so, how do you like it?

I don't have one.  I have seen some cheap prices lately.  Also, the M&P Compact pistols are nearly as cheap as the Shields.

I’ve shot one a bit.

I’m not a huge fan of the hinged trigger but as far as reliability and accuracy there is nothing at all wrong with them. Nearly unbeatable as far as value.

rarely hear anything bad about them, except that folks don't much like the v.1 trigger.  If I hadn't gone the XDS route, I'd have probably gotten one of them.

I didn't know there was a v2. I believe the one I shot (rental) was a v1. I found I could shoot it pretty well, but the boxier grip of the XDs fit my XL hands much better. I liked the G43 better, as well.

From watching a gazillion videos on the topic, I get the impression the Shield is the most popular of the ultra-compact 9mms, with the possible exception of the Glock 43. Then again, the Shield is also very price-competitive, so that might explain it.

V.1 has a pretty smooth texture while the v.2 is pretty agressive.   They’re pretty good sellers at the range I work at.  Several of my co-workers have purchased and carried one but then sold it later on.  I personally went the XDs route.

I have a 1.0 in .40 S&W.  Recoil is manageable for its intended purpose but I would not want to attempt a 25 yard shot with it.  Other than that, I suspect I would have been happier with 9x19mm but that suspicion has not been enough to get me to swap calibers.  As it stands, the Shield has gotten a lot of holster time this summer, and I'll continue to use it for outer pocket carry in cooler weather.

Come to think of it, I still have $170 on a gift card for a local gun shop.  Por que no los dos?

I've had the V1 for about 5 years. Its a decent pistol- accurate and reliable. the slide/frame fit was really stiff when I first got it, and I had to work it back and forth a few hundred times to loosen it up a bit.
I haven't carried it in over a year, it fits in sort of an odd spot between a compact double stack (G19) and a micro-gat like a P238 or J-fame.

Everything I have read about them is positive.  Here in mid-Ohio, price for a Shield runs $75-$100 lower than a Glock 43...if you can find the Glock.  Two of our security guys carry Shields and speak highly of them.
