Yet another computer question
« on: September 22, 2018, 08:47:14 PM »
I should just give up ...

I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 tablet. A friend recently published an eBook, which he sent to me as a .MOBi file. That's supposed to work with Kindle. I'm having two problems.

I downloaded the book file to the tablet, and it's in a "Downloads" folder on the device's internal memory. I'd like to move it to the SD card (external sorage), but it won't let me do it.

Second, I've installed the Android Kindle reader app, but I can't figure out how to open that and then navigate to where my friend's book is residing.

Can anyone help?

Sounds easy enough -- except that I didn't know I have a Kindle e-mail address. How do I find out what that is? And once I send the file to it, does it magically appear in my library? Is there a way to configure the library to the external memory (SD card)?

{Edit to add} Found it. Why does the Android device have a Kindle e-mail, but the Windows tablet Kindle reader doesn't?

Or try FBReader from the Android Play Store.

{Edit to add} Found it. Why does the Android device have a Kindle e-mail, but the Windows tablet Kindle reader doesn't?

Sent the e-mail. E-mail says it was sent successfully. Nothing shows up in my Kindle account -- not on the Android device, not on the Windows device, and not in the Kindle Cloud.

I *^$*^$ hate computers.

Annnnnnnd ...

I don't know what magic button I pushed or what magickal incantations I pronounced, but it's in. And I must say that the Kindle app on the Android tablet is a lot better than the Kindle app on a Windows tablet.

Ben, thanks for the tip.

No problem. That's pretty much how I get all my non-Amazon files from Gutenberg and elsewhere to my Kindle account. I find it way more convenient than plugging in the USB and downloading and transferring.

But the author, a personal friend, sent me the .MOBi file as an e-mail attachment. I opened the e-mail on the Android tablet and downloaded the file, but I couldn't find any way to get the Kindle app to go looking for the file outside of the Kindle library, and I couldn't find any way to move or copy the file into the Kindle library.

I should have just had him send me a .PDF.

But then you would have to convert it to kindle format (which you can do by putting "convert" in the subject line of the email to your kindle account). It doesn't matter if the file comes from Gutenberg or a friend - as long as it's kindle format or a format that kindle can convert, you can email it into your catalog.

Or I could read it in Adobe Reader. Which I have, and know how to use.

It can take a while because it needs to be converted, added to your account, and then your tablet to notice that it is available and download it.
