Never ask a moron "how dumb can you be?"
They will almost always take that as a challenge.
If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen.

I think it's going to be hard to beat Harvard's entry:

The price of freedom is eternal vigilance. - Thomas Jefferson

Necessity is the plea for every infringement of human freedom. It is the argument of tyrants; it is the creed of slaves. - William Pitt the Younger

Perfectly symmetrical violence never solved anything. - Professor Hubert J. Farnsworth

Point of correction:  The student union banned clapping at student union events.  The university did not ban clapping.

[Britt] Here, hold my pint and watch this [Britt]
For the invisible things of him since the creation of the world are clearly seen, being perceived through the things that are made, even his everlasting power and divinity, that they may be without excuse. Because knowing God, they didn’t glorify him as God, and didn’t give thanks, but became vain in their reasoning, and their senseless heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools.

You REALLY think there's a bottom floor in that elevator shaft?

That's cute.

There most certainly is.

Stupidity of this level can only be sustained by an economy that allows people HUGE amounts of free time, where zero people are concerned about if they are going to eat this week, and where people face an amount of real adversity that asymptotically approaches zero and are so out of sorts with the normal human experience that they have to create "adversity" like the above.

So, once the stupidity starts making people starve to death (see: Venezuela), this insanity stops.
I wish the Ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened.

So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us. There are other forces at work in this world, Frodo, besides the will of evil. Bilbo was meant to find the Ring. In which case, you also were meant to have it. And that is an encouraging thought

^^^ I believe I agree.  We (modern society) may becoming better educated (may be) but we seem to be getting stupider, or at least more gullible.  We are now actually listening to people who believe that the government creates money out of thin air and it's just a question of how fast we can spend it.  If you have a goose that lays golden eggs you can criticize it, call it bad names, even question its motives and goals.  But once you kill it you're broke.

Who the *expletive deleted*ck is it going to trigger? Steven Hawking? Or the "migrant" that was using the clapper a few weeks ago to set up IED triggers?

That is all. *expletive deleted*ck you all, eat *expletive deleted*it, and die in a fire. I have considered writing here a long parting section dedicated to each poster, but I have decided, at length, against it. *expletive deleted*ck you all and Hail Satan.

I actually have a sensory disorder called hyperacusis and hate loud noises like clapping.

Check your ableism privilege people!

(yes, I do have hyperacusis, but even I think this is dumb.  I wouldn't go to something that loud in the first place).

Gross stupidity, left to its own devices is ultimately self correcting.

Except in this vector of stupidity, it has absolutely ZERO economic impact... unless, of course, people earn their living by becoming professional event clappers.

It's social stupidity. And social stupidity is a down elevator that has no bottom floor.
