Christmas Music meets #MeToo
« on: December 08, 2018, 12:27:39 PM »
https://www.cbsnews.com/news/baby-its-cold-outside-backlash-as-more-radio-stations-ban-song-over-lyrics-amid-metoo-movement/

Now they want the song "Baby It's Colt Outside" banned. Where's all the outrage against much more blatant "lyrics" promoting rape culture in rap music? Instead, they have to pick on a classic song that's much more along the lines of seduction than rape.

I'm disgusted. Not by the song, but by the over-the-top political correctness run amok.

They've been attacking it for the last few years actually.

I read that this year, Dean Martin's daughter told the SJWs to all go to hell and she's going to continue to proudly perform it.

I also saw that this year there was quite a backlash on radio stations and a couple of them did a poll. Something over 90% of their listeners told them to play the song. So as usual, a few overly sensitive whiners, coupled with overly reactive businesses, are what ruins things.

The more people that stand up to the snowflakes instead of coddling them, the faster this crap will end.

Absolutely, but the problem is no one is standing.  Especially anything media related (advertisers, broadcasters, etc.)  Someone cries "(something) - ism!!!", and the advertisers get nervous about boycotts, and broadcasters get nervous about losing advertising revenue.  Doesn't seem to matter if there are 5 people yelling, five hundred, of five thousand.  Fear of losing ad money leads them to fold as soon as anyone makes noise.  And, I think the media is in large part responsible for their own problem here.  Someone makes an allegation against a anyone of any "importance" (especially on the conservative side), it's reported as fact.  It only encourages more allegations to be made and publicized.  Once the dam brakes, hard to stop the water...

BICO is a fun song, but it's not Christmas music.

This will keep happening as long as people keep giving in. On that note, Kanye West and that MAGA dress lady should make a video for that song.

I was in the grocery store the other day and realized that they were playing and all female version of Baby it's Cold Outside.

I was so triggered and horrified that I continued my shopping, checked out, went home, and put my groceries away like the traumatized little social justice snowflake I was.

Oh, and some people are actually starting to push back at the "pound me too" people by noting that if you closely read the lyrics, the guy is pressuring the woman, but she's also trying to figure out a way to justify staying but not having her friends and neighbors talk.

In other words, she wants to get it on with the guy but she doesn't want to be labeled a tramp.

If you thought the "pound me too" people were triggered before, you should see some of the reactions to that analysis.

BICO is a fun song, but it's not Christmas music.

I agree with that. Originally written as a winter themed song, so added to many Christmas albums because of the holiday/seasonal intersection.

I also agree about the background. From googling, even the original composer said it was more about the girl wanting to stay, "but what would the neighbors think?" So if anything, the SJWs should be upset about 1940's mores that would point fingers at the unmarried woman staying the night, even though she wanted to.

Good point.

The Irish Independent lists some of the naughtier Christmas songs that have avoided the wrath of the SJW's....so far.

That song's pretty date rapey.

My wife was just watching Holiday Inn last night. I thought the song White Christmas was the most triggeriffic part. Turns out there's lots of black-face going on, too. It was so problematic, I'm pretty sure I saw AOC going in for another face-mask.
