File comparison tool
« on: February 07, 2007, 09:42:30 AM »
I just got a nice Western Digital USB powered 120G hard drive and I was backing up all my computers by just copying the My Documents folders and I have a boatload of pictures I use for my wallpaper and I was wondering if anyone had a good file/picture compare program.  I have used the trial version of Beyond Compare2 and it works well to tell duplicate names and compares files sizes, but I would like to be able to compare the actual image.

I don't know of anything in specific.  All I have to suggest is find something that will check the file hash such as an md5 hash.

I use a program windows called hashtab to check the hashes.  I'm sure somebody has written something to do what you are wanting.

edit to add
a google search returned a program called hashpuff.

rsync will check files as it dumps them elsewhere.  It is a really good backup/mirroring tool.
