A Philadelphia couple is facing criticism after posting a crowdsourcing request that asked their neighbors to provide them with free meals and do chores for them after the birth of their first baby.

Quote
“As the father-to-be, I’m teetering on a fence of emotions,” Jim Burns, the expectant dad, wrote on the crowdsourcing platform Meal Train, according to the New York Post. His request has since been deleted, but snippets of the post were shared by Twitter user @JJFromTheBronx earlier this month.

“One of the things I’m most afraid of is not getting a great deal of sleep and as a result not being in the best frame of mind to offer my wife the support she needs to recover from the child-birthing process,” Burns continued.

Though it’s normal for someone to help out a neighbor in need, the couple is drawing ire for the specificity of their requests. Burns provided recipes for dozens of meals, noted specific dietary restrictions including that the couple “avoid sugar” and asked neighbors to contribute chores like vacuuming or doing the dishes if they were unable to cook.

“Turns out they are … asking total strangers to help them and with the most millennial phrasing I have ever seen in my life,” the Twitter user wrote while sharing screenshots.

Evidently the meaning of a train has changed over the years, too!

In an interview with the Post, Burns said he was surprised by the negative reaction.

“I apologize if it was taken the wrong way — and I’m frankly just very surprised and a little disheartened by … the response,” he said. “If they are not interested, then they don’t have to check that site or do anything. This is the world we live in.

Yes, moron, this IS the world we live in. If you and your significant other weren't ready to take on the duties and responsibilities of bringing a child into this world and caring for it, as generations have done before you, then perhaps you should have practiced birth control, or looked up the definition of "abstinence."

It's a little late, Philadelphia couple, but there's these rather exclusive organizations called "churches" where people do those things spontaneously and willingly for each other.
.
Maybe you should check into that.... And find something more important than yourselves.
I wish the Ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened.

So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us. There are other forces at work in this world, Frodo, besides the will of evil. Bilbo was meant to find the Ring. In which case, you also were meant to have it. And that is an encouraging thought

A few years ago I heard a young man mention that he had set up a "go fund me" account so people could pay his college tuition.   ???

No thanks.

The article cited above is datelined 23 April, but is there a possibility this all started as an April 01th joke?

I'm beginning to really really hate the 01th of April.

It's April 1st 365.25 days a year in the news nowadays.
