Pulled an EIGHT YEAR OLD boy out of recess to indoctrinate him with transgender propaganda. Asked him repeatedly if he feels like a girl. Watch videos with him and gave him transgender books.

Of course never told the parents.

And, also of course, the teacher is still free to teach and screw up other children because the school district won't fire her.

She doesn't deserve to be fired. She deserves to have a millstone tied around her neck and tossed into the Mariana trench.

Legally, I disagree with this. Morally, you are of course correct.

Now imagine what would happen if a teacher had offered to pray with the student.

That teacher should have been out the *expletive deleted*ing door *immediately* and on so many levels.

Even if the teacher *did* have a real reason to believe the child needed counseling for being transgender, THAT'S NOT HER JOB! That *expletive deleted*it goes straight to the parents and the school's mental health professional (and don't tell me they don't have, at minimum, a guidance councilor) A teacher does not have the training or the credentials to deal with much of anything outside of academics. They are to *report* issues that do not fall within their purview to the appropriate authority.

BSL, my wife, the elementary school teacher of 27 years experience, agrees with you, and this is pretty much the route she follows on these situations.  Her district is very directive on the role of the teacher is these situations is to refer onwards to the parents and specialty district personnel.

Just to be clear, my comment wasn't a dig at teachers. They have enough on their plates without having to deal with stuff that was never part of their purview in the first place.

In fact, this is why we have those specialty district personnel and mandated reporting policy in place, so the people who are trained to deal with the situation at hand can deal with it correctly, and everyone else can go back to doing their job.

Even with the above, for any school personnel to even attempt to "deal with the [alleged] situation" without first informing and involving the parents is wrong. Schools are not custodial guardians. They act in loco parentis ("in place of the parents") during the period of the day when the kids are in their school, but that doesn't give the school system any right to initiate any sort of "treatment" without the parents' knowledge and consent.

Let me just say not necessarily: many schools have school-based clinics, that are usually run by local healthcare facilities, and many states provide that a minor can consent to their own medical care for some areas without parental knowledge, notification or consent.  As a general rule, the areas of treatment to which a minor can give their own consent usually have to do with sex, drugs or mental health.  A young woman can go to the high school clinic and receive a script for birth control pills, for example.  The parents will never know about it unless the minor chooses to tell them.

Which is (in my opinion) as it should be to a certain degree, especially for teens who may or may not have the most sympathetic parents in the world.

However, in this case, the 8 year old did not seek out assistance from someone who would be mandated by law to maintain the childs confidentiality. Instead, we have a case where the teacher approached the child with her concerns about his well being, which is the sticking point. Any concerns the teacher has should go to parents first (unless she/he suspects abuse from the parents) and the appropriate official second.
