100 drivers stranded
« on: June 28, 2019, 11:07:21 AM »
https://www.cnn.com/2019/06/26/us/google-maps-detour-colorado-trnd/index.html

I realize this is really only a story because an unusually high number of folks were inconvenienced and it made a good picture.  But the tone of the article was as if they were stranded out of reach of civilization.  The lady in the video clip cited getting mud on her SUV as an indicator of how traumatic the ordeal was.  Really?  I know most folks never leave the pavement, but is a dirt road and unexpected mud really such a big deal?

If someone at google did this on purpose, I applaud them. Next time take them down a muddy or icy slope that ends in a cliff- we must occassionally purge the lemmings, it’s for the best for our species.

A) WTF?!, over...
B) How dumb can you be to take an unmarked "Google Maps" detour down a muddy road
C) Is there something in Denver water that creates mass dumbassery?
D) WTF?!, over...

People blindly follow their GPS and map routing every day, and end up in a lake or other places cars don't belong, like a forest road that ends in 47 feet of snow and they are dressed for a day at the beach. The dumbing down of society has been increasing at a rapid pace, right along with more and more technology that takes away all of your need to do any critical thinking. :(

It's not like they got stranded in Detroit. That would have made for a rather large collection of stripped down cars and missing persons reports.

There's a LOT of money to be made with a tractor and a chain there...

Before I hit your post I was about to theorize that it was a bit of code inserted by the Colorado Tow Truck Drivers Benevolent Association

Or with 3 cups, a ball, and a folding table.  Less strenuous, more profitable.

When I lived in Brownsville, TX we would go out on the beach and play in our old 4x4 Cherokee. There were two tow operators on the beach there who would charge $100+ to pull people out of the sand.  If they caught someone towing for money they'd call the police, and the local PD and SO would give tickets for unlicensed towing.
Made them insane when I'd tow people out with my Cherokee for free.  They'd literally circle like sharks waiting to see if A) I failed or B) I took money for the tow.

If you were to really piss them off, take ‘donations’ or ‘gifts’ for pulling people out of the sand  >:D

Some tow truck operators are ok, but many of them are bottom feeding scum.
