Firearms Parts Seizures by CBP

Customs agents seized a ton of firearms parts being imported from China, apparently as part of an "arms embargo".

The story lacks details, and of course says stuff like, "seized muzzles", but it looks like mostly furniture.

I've seen a lot of (obviously) crappy Chinese gun parts & accessories at gun shows - for at least the last 10 years, it wouldn't be incorrect to label it a veritable flood of junk.

A lot of the Chinese stuff is total crap but some of has been coming up in quality quite a bit. Some of the newer UTG stuff has impressed me lately. Don't forget Primary Arms red dots are Chinese made. I think the Sig sights are too. I know holosun is and I think they make the PA red dots.

I understand some Chinese stuff may be sub-par, but my main interest was that they seized stuff like stocks, sights, etc. - not the functional parts of firearms. Maybe I don't want the Chinese knockoff of a magpul stock, but if I did, seems like that shouldn't be any of the gov's business.

I worry when something like this arms embargo just globally encompasses stuff. I worry about what the anti-gun politicians can do with such wide-ranging powers regarding what the functional parts of a firearm are.

ITAR probably doesn't stop the Chinese from sending the covered stuff back home in diplomatic pouches to be retro-engineered.
