Patriots - Brady
« on: January 05, 2020, 05:33:25 PM »
If you don't live on Planet Earth, you may not have heard that Tom Terrific and the New England Patriots lost to the Tennessee Titans. I'm not a football fan and, if I were, I wouldn't be a Patriots fan. But I do occasionally pay attention to a bit of what's happening in and around the NFL. My sense is that Tom Brady has been basically about average this year, far off his stats for prior seasons. He's 42 years old and has won six super bowls. He has said he wants to play until he's 45.

What do you think? My view is that he should retire now, rather than crank out two or three mediocre seasons to wind down an otherwise stellar career.

I wanted to see the Pats win for no other reason than it causes TDS in the usual suspects.

The Browns weren't going to get it done,  so may as well have been the Pats for me.

That seems to be a common issue with many athletes that were very successful.  They don't know when to walk away.  I don't follow the Patriots so I don't know if Brady has really reached that point or not.  New Orleans lost as well.

The other issue is there are so many combinations of things that can make a team successful or fail.  The QB often gets blamed for the failure, but it isn't always him.

Like when the receiver flubs the catch guess who gets dinged for an incompletion.

If the man wants to play, I say go for it.

Personally, I'd have been cashing out and enjoying my life while not risking my life/limb/health MUCH earlier than Mr. Brady chooses, but so long as he's still better than most other quarterbacks, keep running up those numbers, Tom.

Or the offensive line is bad that year so the running game is poor so play action passing doesn't work and the QB has to throw more against more difficult pass defense while dodging a stronger pass rush.

RELATED, but this sort is thing is why I am adamant that Barry Sanders is the greatest running back of all time.
