D.C. officials plan to ask residents to submit to voluntary searches of their homes in exchange for amnesty if illegal guns or drugs are found.

The "Safe Homes Initiative" will begin March 24th in the  Washington Highlands area of southeast Washington and will later expand to other neighborhoods. Police Chief Cathy L. Lanier says the the program is aimed at residents who want to cooperate with police. She gave the example of parents who know or suspect their children have guns in the home.

The program is among several the District has aimed at combatting gun crimes.

Officers will go door-to-door asking residents for permission to search their homes.

I'm sure that the ACLU will applaud long and loud.

In my opinion, the fact that the parents ARE THAT WEAK is the root cause of why their little snowflakes turn into sociopathic killers.

For those who don't want authorities coming into their home because nothing is actually wrong, what happens, they get marked down on a list as "possible suspects"?

I doubt DC's finest will make it sound like they have a choice.  I'm picturing Hurricane Katrina all over again.

For years now, I've said total gun control would never work, because it would necessitate a complete suspension of the Constitution so that a house-by-house search for firearms could take place.  Never thought that would happen, and I never thought I'd see it done on a voluntary basis.

Damned if I wasn't being prophetic, though I'd always hoped I'd be wrong.

I also see that D.C.'s finest has never heard of the phenomenon of "community guns", wherein the little sociopaths don't even keep the illegal guns at home, they keep them in a hiding place, even buried, and all the members of the gang know where the gun is.

Oh I'm going to assume that they know what those are, especially the gang units and whatnot.  Thier superiors, however, have no interest in the nuts and bolts of daily law enforcement.  Going door to door and collecting guns is doing something about the problem, right?   rolleyes  To get reelected or reappointed, you have to seem like you're doing something.....for the children!

I doubt it.  Cops can be bullies, just like in New Orleans post Katrina.  They will make it sound like the subjects residents have no choice, espeically in the poorer neighborhoods.  *expletive deleted*it I bet they don't even go into the nice neighborhoods.

I didn't know there were nice neighborhoods in Washington. I thought the nice neighborhoods were in Maryland and Virginia.

Why isn't there a movement to expose the knuckleheads who proposed this travesty, and let the constituents of that district give it the exposure it deserves.

They're doing the same thing in Oakland, CA:

Hmmm...trying such things in predominantly high-crime, low-income areas with heavy minority populations.
Isn't that SOP with gun control measures that the more affluent majority think will never affect them?

Give it time and the "voluntary" "permission" aspects will be phased out.
