Clemency for Blagojevich?
« on: February 18, 2020, 01:40:49 PM »
OK, question....

Clemency is different from a pardon, correct? I think a pardon is an exoneration, while clemency is OK, you served time, that's enough, correct?

That said, I do NOT agree with granting Blagojevich clemency, just as I did not agree with Obama granting (insert gender appropriate name here) Manning (be damned if I can remember either first name) clemency.

Eh.

While I'm no fan of Blago's generally I always thought that he pissed off Obama somehow and that's what led to the arrest and incredibly long sentence he got.

Fourteen years for what is pretty much mundane corruption? Given how corrupt they were it's difficult to imagine anyone n the Obama administration being that much a stickler for the law.

And wasn't Kerik at least partially railroaded? I don't recall clearly but I seem to remember that there were issues with his case. And we know that federal prosecutors are not above lying and cheating their way to victory, especially when a big scalp is the prize.

Man, I still remember when Blagojevich was going to turn and bring down Obama.  Or Rezko before that.

Well, it appears Trump granted the clemency. I do not remember the whole Blago thing anymore, other than at the time, I recall myself thinking he got what he deserved. IIRC, he was an arrogant ass, so I'm not a fan of him walking early.

That tells me he probably flipped.

He better watch his back.

If he didn't flip, nobody will believe him.

For the invisible things of him since the creation of the world are clearly seen, being perceived through the things that are made, even his everlasting power and divinity, that they may be without excuse. Because knowing God, they didn’t glorify him as God, and didn’t give thanks, but became vain in their reasoning, and their senseless heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools.

Hope you're right,  otherwise why turn that POS loose?

8 years is probably enough, but he was sentenced to 14,  and that's only what they actually caught him for.  I really doubt it was his first (or only) offense.

I don't see the upside for anyone, except Blago, for his early release.

Not that it has anything to do with justice or not and is more optics, but  I was unaware Blogo was on Trump's TV show. Seems he could have picked a more deserving individual (and I know there are LOTS who are serving outrageous sentences they don't deserve) that didn't come back to hit him as "buddy deal" with the MSM.

There's always the possibility he has some kind of dirt on someone and finally cave.

Otherwise, the simplest answer is that they're all buddy buddy, and Trump felt sorry for his old friend.  The dude was on the Apprentice after all.

You may have misspelled "sleezy".

And here all along I thought the correct spelling was "Shitbag".
