Mandatory vaccination to slow the pandemic
« on: February 22, 2020, 10:23:15 AM »
If things go really sideways martial law and mandatory vaccination may be on the agenda.

That assumes there will be a vaccine and that there will he enough to go around.

The elites haven't changed their behavior and the politicos are still holding rallies and pressing the flesh so that may indicate it's not time to panic.

Even posting this feels crazy but the news out of China is disturbing to say the least.

For the invisible things of him since the creation of the world are clearly seen, being perceived through the things that are made, even his everlasting power and divinity, that they may be without excuse. Because knowing God, they didn’t glorify him as God, and didn’t give thanks, but became vain in their reasoning, and their senseless heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools.

Even if there is vaccine availability, I don't believe the gov will do a gun to the head vaccination requirement. Even if they wanted to, by the time it got that far we would likely have more pressing problems.

Were I in a dense urban setting, depending on vaccine  effectiveness, I might voluntarily get vaccinated. Living in the sticks, I think I would take precautions and ride it out.

Nope, corona family of viruses mutate too rapidly to have an effective vaccine that can be mandated by law to stop slow a pandemic. This is why the small pox and MMR vaccinations are so effective in controlling those diseases.

Need to treat this one like livestock diseases, isolation and quarantine if goes global pandemic. Interestingly many of your herd/flock killing swine/avian flu are a corona viruses.

Pretty much what China is doing- quarantine, then burn the corpses.

Some HIV drugs seem to work as well. Not sure we can put the entire human population on it.

Considering how centralized our vaccine production is these days I am doubtful they could make 350 million vaccine doses even if they suddenly developed one.

Folks need to reread Under a Graveyard Sky.

There's some good vaccine production fiction in there.

The Last Centurian might be more appropriate though.

For the aftermath, maybe.  But I was considering the part about how, exactly, a government like china might go about producing vaccines.   [tinfoil] [tinfoil]
