Newly desired photon emission unit

New Fenix PD40R v2.

Do. Want.

https://www.fenixlighting.com/product/fenix-pd40r-v2-rechargeable-flashlight/

I've been EDC'ing a PD36 for almost a year now. Wouldn't be without it but it's my belt light for work. I've been wanting something bigger. Why? Because I do, that's why. This fills the bill nicely. I like the rotary switch idea, too. The only gripe about my 36 is its inability to tail-sit due to the protruding switch cap. The 40r's rotary switch fixes that.

My latest flashlight is a UltraFire WF-501B  https://www.dx.com/p/ultrafire-wf-501b-cree-r2-wc-250-lumen-led-flashlight-black-1-18650-2-cr123a-2006001.html

It's not as nice as my very similar S&W flashlight, and it won't stand up on the tailpiece to light up the ceiling.  But it will take non-buttontop 18650 batteries where the S&W needs a little adapter for that.  I also like the push-on/push-off switch, I just wish it was recessed a little.

After reading the description and looking at the pictures of the Fenix, I have to wonder, can it be activated with one hand?  The rotary switch seems like it would be awkward, at best, with one hand.

I wondered about that two-handed operation as well.

I've got an ancient Radio Shack LED with a button on the barrel.  It seems a lot more convenient than the rest of my flashlights with the buttons on the back end.

And if I may say so, I'd rather have a straight on-off rather than cycling through on dim, on bright, on disco flash, off again.  I imagine if I'm in a tactical situation* if I want it on, I want it on, and if I want it off, I want it off right now, not two clicks later.  I also think I prefer push-slide switches to buttons, but I'm not married to that idea.

Others may disagree, but disagreements are what make horse races.

I'm also curious about the 2 meter depth specification. Kind of odd, to my mind. Is that some kind of industry-wide official "Yeah, you can get it wet, but don't go diving with it" specification?

WHATEVER YOUR DEFINITION OF "INFRINGE " IS, YOU SHOULDN'T BE DOING IT.

Preach it!  I totally agree.  On/off.  And if it has to have a thumb switch, make it one my thumb can switch.  The range of movement in my thumbs is not what it used to be.
