He stood out in every movie he was in.

RIP. He was a great actor. Very subdued, but strong screen presence. This is another one where I was surprised at the age. I shouldn't be - I remember seeing Alien in the theater when I was like 17 or 18, and he looked middle-aged then. Guess it's just me getting old.

An actor of great versatility. He could play any genre and make it memorable. RIP, Sir Ian.

One often overlooked movie he was in is The Madness of King George.

If you look at his list of acting credits, he has been at it a long, long time.  Quite a few good movies as well. 

Priest Vito Cornelius in the Fifth Element.  That is probably the character I remember the most after Bilbo.  And for some reason Time Bandits came to mind and yes, he was in that also.
