California Affirmative Action
« on: June 20, 2020, 04:22:45 PM »
Looks like it passed the assembly. A quick reading of the bill makes it look like it'll be legal to discriminate based on skin color under CA law. IMO, freedom of association means you should be able to, but I'm not sure I like where they are pushing this.

A plan is just a list of things that doesn't happen.
Is defenestration possible through the overton window?

Quote
Assemblyman Evan Low (D-Campbell) also noted that a majority of calls to his office voiced opposition to ACA 5. Despite voting for ACA 5, Low had received over 3,000 emails and phone calls against ACA 5, with only 9 in total supporting it. Assemblyman Low voted for the bill because he himself is in support of social justice and equality.

So if 90% of his constituents are for something that he's against, he'll still vote against it?

So much for a representative form of government.

Will this survive legal challenge against the civil rights act?

Where is the ACLU? Surely they are prepping for a lawsuit as we type.

How much you want to bet it'll be used to say "You're a white male, you can't have this job"?

How does that differ from what they've been saying for the past two decades?

From the article, it appears Asians may have a bigger beef. They're already getting screwed in academia.

Maybe you are being sarcastic?  The ACLU loves affirmative action:

Yes, is it will.  The supreme court said racial discrimination is ok if it is for "diversity."

If the Republicans were smart, they would go all out against racial discrimination to peel off some of the Asian vote.  And there are a LOT of Asians in the USA.

Asians voting for people who want to discriminate against their kids getting into college is crazy.

Trump is trying to do this, but I am afraid it not enough.  The whole party should work to end racial discrimination and make it loud clear to Asians who is doing so.

If the Republicans were smart...

The democratic party is giving the Stupid Party a tremendous amount of material right now. But the Stupid Part doesn't seem to be using it. I think they think they will alienate the moderates. Instead they need to position themselves confidently and allow the Democratic party to alienate the moderates.

On race issues, the Stupid Party could easily double down on pro-freedom platform of "look at what the Democratic policies produce. We actually do care about you as an equal. Come over to our party, we have jobs and freedom. MAGA with us! Hurray for real, non-oppositional diversity! Everyone is welcome in America!". But they don't do it. Why? Most likely they are just Stupid, but they may think that actively appealing to blacks and minorities would alienate their white base. I don't agree because I don't think the white plurality is actually racist, just tired of racial pandering, exploitation and mudslinging. A rejection of racial politics and explicit return to equality for all would actually appeal to the white plurality as well. But Democrats would shreak about the "explicit racism" of a colorblind racial politics, and the Stupid Party seems to fear that, even though they have absolutely nothing to lose, with Democrats currently calling our president a white supremacist daily and blaming him for things Democratic policies actually caused, such as the recent deaths in the CHOP. They really have to wake up to the fact that they have nothing to lose and position themselves as the "not Democrat" party, which should be pretty easy right now, and traditionally is their actual value in reality anyway. But they have to step up to the plate and counter the accusations with a coherent alternative, instead of mostly remaining silent, which is almost an admission of guilt.

And, as always, whatever platform the Republicans tried to promulgate, it would be almost impossible to get it to the people intact without Democratic media gift-wrapping. Trump seems to be the only one who can punch a message through the media.

This.

I have no numbers, but I'll WAG that actual white supremacists and actual haters of people not white are in the single digits of that population. If you listen to the MSM, etc. though, it's like 75% and another 20% are enablers.

In reality, IMO, people like me might be called racist because I won't put up with being called racist when I'm not, simply because I'm white. I'll not bend the knee either. This is much different than hating people not like me. I qualify as racist simply because I won't let people tell me that I am racist when I am not. Or that I owe someone something when I do not.

People want to make me a villain simply because of my skin color, then are surprised and angry if I choose not to accept their narrative. I believe people like me are part of the new silent majority. We won't protest or riot, but we're gonna vote.
