Nope, not a global warming thread.
I actually found it fascinating because of the temperature extremes: Nearly 200 degrees. That is mind boggling to me. It's 100 deg now, and in the winter it will drop to -90. While 100 deg is easy for me to visualize, since I've experienced it all my life, I can't fathom -90, nor the wide temp swing. Amazing what the human body, and most of Earth's biology, can adapt to.

I've read that at temperatures that low, you have to drain the oil out of an engine when you're not using it. Otherwise, you might get a cracked block.

I'm thinking that area was probably warmish when all the mammoths and assorted critters ended up frozen. Can't get frozen into the permafrost if it's always cold.
