Pimento cheese recommendation
« on: November 19, 2024, 10:50:29 AM »
Pimento cheese is one of those things I've always been "meh" on. I like it, especially on celery, crackers, or toast, but it isn't something I go out of my way for. Only kind I've ever had is the store bought tub-o-goo variety. SWMBO is more into it than I, though not by much, so we keep some in the fridge for snacking. A couple months back I picked up Palmetto brand to try something different. Holy hell is it some good stuff! Big shreds of real cheddar, just right on the mayo, and a touch of spicy heat to the finish. Fortunately, Sam's has it in bigger portions costing little more than most grocers' "regular size" tubs. A good thing as we go through a couple a month. I keep it in the office fridge for snacks. Goes perfect with original flavor Triscuits.

My Grandparents used to buy it from the deli of the local grocery store chain - Weis - in Pennsylvania. It was made in each local store from standard products sourced for the chain and it was incredible.

It was a staple on the table at just about every lunch, especially in the summer when there were fresh veggies. They used it to stuff tomatoes, mushrooms, celery, you name it.

Then the chain stopped making it in house and went with a local supplier, and it wasn't nearly as good.

Made here in SC. They do some different varieties too, such as bacon, jalepeno cheddar, and Monterey jack, plus they do a chicken salad as well.
