Due to concern over the safety of our NRA family and community, we regret to inform you that we have decided to cancel the 2021 Annual Meeting & Exhibits. This cancellation applies to all events and meetings that were scheduled in Houston. We will provide future notification regarding a rescheduled date for the Annual Meeting of Members.

Looks like the NRA Annual meeting week is cancelled.  I wish they wouldn't have waited until the week before to do this.  I wonder if exhibitors and other were cancelling.

My first thought was that they didn't get enough vendors and/or members buying tickets to make it worthwhile and thus are going the "covid" route. If it really was a covid concern, it seems they would have made that decision at least a couple of months ago.

Most of the largest American gun makers have taken steps to drop out, from informing the NRA that they won’t be attending to cancelling travel plans. These companies include Benelli USA, Browning, FN Herstal, Kimber Manufacturing, Savage Arms, Smith & Wesson, Springfield Armory, Sig Sauer, and Sturm, Ruger & Company, according to people with knowledge of internal communications at these companies. …

Meanwhile, the American arms of Italy’s Beretta and Germany’s Heckler & Koch have already positioned themselves to skip the convention, out of concern for the health and safety of staff, but appear to be waiting on the NRA to cancel it to avoid drawing the ire from the powerful industry group and the public, two people familiar with situation and another source briefed on the matter said. Neither company responded to The Daily Beast.

Two executives at Vista Outdoor, an industry powerhouse that owns several of the most popular ammunition brands—like CCI, Federal, and Speer—told friends they will not go either, according to two people familiar with their decisions.

The most popular clothing outfitter in the gun world, 5.11 Tactical, confirmed it will no longer be going and has additionally cancelled plans to attend “all national trade shows for the balance of the year out of concern for the health and wellbeing of our employees, customers, and partners.”

This part is rather interesting

TTAG has heard about the accumulating number of cancellations for a couple of weeks now as some large industry names told us they’ve decided it just wasn’t worth the risk. However, we’ve also heard that there are other considerations behind the decisions of a number of companies that won’t be there.

We’ve been told by a not insignificant number of exhibitors that they didn’t want to support the NRA with a clearly compromised Wayne LaPierre still leading the association.

I say again, they can't be stupid enough not to see what an albatross around their neck that Wayne is. I've commented in the past that if Wayne cared a whit about the NRA, he would have stepped down in some innocuous way, even if he was innocent, for the good of the organization. He is a lost cause. That the NRA board hasn't given him the boot is the real burr under the saddle of most of us who are members.

Though if you read comments in that TTAG article, you still see people calling those who speak out about Wayne "fudds". Which is ironic, because from my perspective, it's mostly fudds who are still blindly praising the NRA.

Just a personal observation-
One of the youtube channels I follow is Hickock45. Pretty decent presentation, entertaining, informative and generally fun to watch.
He used to push the NRA in every video. I don't think he does that anymore.

I have noticed that pretty much none of the large subscriber base Youtube gun guys do. Everytime they mention gun rights, they seem to list off pretty much all the groups except the NRA.

Again, more evidence that the NRA is either clueless or something really hinky is going on, that they seem to completely ignore this stuff.

I think at this point the NRA board is mostly if not entirely made up of minions depended on Wayne's money machine.

Even GunTalk Radio talks bad about the NRA.  He used to be pretty pro-NRA, but changed the last few years.  He said he was able to get on the call when Wayne was forced to testify in a deposition.  He said it was not pretty.  (He still hates the GOA though.)

This all came out after the last show.  It is canceled now.  I reserved a hotel room via the NRA.  I got sent a cancellation notice today.

They can't get rid of Wayne because he has rigged the system.  And Wayne won't leave because then whoever replaces him will have access to the private financial histories of the NRA and thus the evidence of his embezzlement.

At this point Wayne is to the NRA  what Hitler was to Nazi Germany. To bring down Hitler we had to destroy Germany. I fear the same will have to be done to bring down Wayne. Whether or not a new NRA can be build from the ashes I don't know.
