CDC's extension of mask requirement for travel struck down by Fed judge.

Judge's comments (summarized): "Are you f******g shi**ing me? Get real and get over yourselves. The answer is not only no, but hell no."

It is officially the end of the mask mandate.  The White House has told the TSA to stand down and not enforce the mandate.

My company just notified me that masks are no longer required on any of our planes.  Other airlines are making the same announcements.

If you have to fly tomorrow, you can do so mask-free.

Why does it take so long to get these things slapped down, and so fast to pass them? Can we have the court nullify it before it's passed next time?

Also, now that the courts have found the order unlawful, how will the citizens who were subject to this unlawful order be compensated? Who will reimburse them for the masks they were forced to buy, pain and suffering from having to endure the unlawful order, foregone travel because of the unlawful order, lost revenue suffered by the travel industry? What about those punished for failing to follow the unlawful order; how will they be compensated and/or pardoned?

Surely those responsible for promulgating this unlawful order will be investigated, fired, or prosecuted, right? At the very least, there will be an investigation and report into how this happened and what mitigation actions will be put in place to prevent future such abuses, right?

I'm glad it got struck down but it still seems like we have a problem if the fedgov gets away with unlawful orders for such a long time and with no consequences.
Maybe a rare occurence, but then you only have to get murdered once to ruin your whole day.

Seen several videos on Twitter where airlines are making the announcements on flights today that masks are now optional.

I fly out to California Monday and plan on being naked on the face….

The lack of consequences for anything is a big part of the problem, either from the electorate or the law.

I've been seeing some of the video clips on the news of airline personnel announcing that masks can come off, and the following interviews of passengers. Just like there are people that wouldn't wear a mask for any reason, there is a segment of the population that really went all in on "masks everywhere and always forever!" Watching their outraged faces (at least their eyes, because they're still wearing masks) being interviewed has been pretty entertaining.

Just like in many states, the only thing that happened is that mandatory masks went away, there is nothing stopping someone from wearing a mask anytime and anywhere.

As I was typing this, I saw on the news that Uber might still require their drivers to put on a mask if a customer tells them to.

Flying to Dallas Monday. Just hope I don’t get a mask Karen for a seat-mate.  Figure if I do I’ll just respond something like “if you want to be reseated go ahead, it won’t hurt my feelings.”  Then put in headphones and ignore whatever screeching ensues.

Funny you should mention that.  About a month ago, I saw a cashier fully compliant with the face mask mandate.  He had to sneeze and pulled the mask down to do so.  He turned away and buried his mouth in his elbow, as you might have expected three years ago.  But it just struck me as funny that the one thing that most everybody agrees on, that masks reduce the spew from coughs and sneezes, was bypassed to keep the mask from getting yucky.  So the mask itself was the important thing, not the function.

I saw exactly that same thing A LOT.

NYT reporter falls for some good satire:

I guess in fairness to the NYT reporter, I can totally see a woke Karen actually writing something like this.

BREAKING: DOJ Will Appeal Ruling Nixing Federal Mask Mandates
https://townhall.com/tipsheet/katiepavlich/2022/04/19/breaking-doj-will-appeal-ruling-nixing-mask-mandates-n2606081

I haven't figured out the double down on stupid of this admin. If they win they will reinstate masks this summer. If they lose, well another  kick in the butt.

I will absolutely continue to mask up!!!!!  The airline is supposed to be tired of the flight crew having to fight with passengers? Well what happens when a rogue passenger approaches another wearing a mask?

Fly320s had better watch out for those rogue passengers!

“If people want to stay safe, the best thing they can do — high quality mask. And that when possible carry some extra masks — I know this sounds crazy — but if you tell someone next to you on a plane — N95 mask or surgical mask and just say, ‘I’ve got an elderly mother at home or I’ve got a child with cancer at home, please do me a favor. Having the people at least closest to you in that row protecting yourself and them can be the best safety.”

Nagging the total stranger sitting next to you on the plane for the next few hours is always a good move.

The Left was right about political science being more important than the science science. The political fall-out from accepting any more demands to mask up are, sadly, more of a problem than the science-science fact that your grandma might die after someone else declines to wear a mask.

That’s where I’ll put my headphones in and ignore their screeching.  With some luck it’ll be someone sufficiently wealthy to make me financially independent when I sue them after they assault me.

And the legal appeal will take longer than the remaining time before the CDC was going to drop the mandate.
Typical.
